Auto-ApplyContract Product Designer / UX Engineer (Capital Markets + AI Prototyping)
Design engineer job in New York, NY
Mercata is an AI-native Research OS for fundamental investors. We transform the overwhelming flow of filings, news, technical documents, transcripts, and alternative data into a structured, time-aware intelligence layer that analysts love to work with.
At the core of Mercata is a dynamic, temporally-aware knowledge graph that understands companies, people, assets, projects, and events over time. It captures how everything fits together: relationships, changes, causality, and the hidden signals that matter inside complex sectors.
Mercata isn't a summarization tool and it isn't a chatbot. It is a reasoning layer over deeply structured, historized data that mirrors how top analysts build conviction. We show analysts what changed, why it matters, and how it fits into the evolution of a company or thesis.
Our goal is simple: help analysts look brilliant by giving them more time to apply judgment and form unique insights. Instead of rebuilding the puzzle from scratch every day, Mercata assembles the pieces, highlights what's new, and lets analysts focus on solving it.
We're an early-stage, venture-backed company building the first truly AI-native platform for research and decision intelligence in public markets. Our founding team has scaled technology companies from zero to tens of millions in revenue. This is a rare opportunity to define a new category from first principles.
The Role: Product Designer / UX Engineer
We're looking for a designer-builder who understands front-office capital markets workflows and can move seamlessly from UX thinking to working prototypes using AI coding tools.
This is not a “Figma-only” design role. You will work directly in tools like Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, Replit, Lovable, or similar environments to create fast 0→1 functional prototypes, iterate rapidly on our existing product, and deeply shape how analysts interact with Mercata's knowledge graph.
You'll work tightly with the CEO and CTO, embed directly with users, and drive short, fast feedback loops. You'll bring clarity to complex workflows, simplify where others add noise, and help define a product that feels inevitable in hindsight.
Most critically, we're looking for someone with genuine front-office capital markets experience, ideally working with or within buy-side fundamental teams (equity analysts, associate PMs, PMs) and understanding deeply their workflows. You should have strong opinions about what works and what doesn't for professional investors, and be able to translate that into elegant, functional interfaces that make analysts faster and more confident.
Requirements
Must Have
2-4 years Front-office capital markets experience (buy-side or sell-side research, PM team, or having built tools directly for analysts/PMs) with a deep understanding of how analysts work: evaluating companies, tracking changes, forming theses, and operating under time pressure.
Comfortable iterating quickly and building functional UI with Cursor, Lovable, Replit, or other tools instead of only Figma mock-ups.
Strong workflow and interaction design instincts for data-dense, multi-step research workflows.
Startup experience
Mindset
Low ego, high ownership, strong communication.
