Job Purpose/Summary: Installs, repairs, and maintains diesel engines and HAZMAT tankers. General maintenance as required. Job Responsibilities Responsible for maintenance and repairs on transport trucks, trailers and pickups. Participate in on-call rotation schedule. Ensure proper D.O.T., state inspection and insurance papers are included in the cab data book. May operate fork lift and company assigned pickup. Familiar with all safety procedures for working with electricity, engines, compressors and material safety data sheets for related materials. May work in proximity to significant hazards (H2S, chemicals, high voltage, elevated heights, volatile liquids, etc.), which require safety accommodations and/or procedures. Perform brake jobs, troubleshooting, electrical problems, and inspect equipment (turbo, engine, a/c, all electrical). Perform state truck and trailer inspections. Demonstrate ability to make independent decisions and reports work progress routinely. Proficient with paperwork, inspection compliance and records keeping. Work independently and able to initiate and manage outside repairs. Assist in scheduling trucks for maintenance and inspections. Assist in maintaining Safety Data Sheets. Work under indirect and occasional supervision. May occasionally lead and train other mechanics. Fill in for the lead mechanic when needed. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. Demonstrate a positive impact by promoting safety in decisions and actions. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of experience. Intermediate mechanical aptitude and familiarity with diesel and gasoline engines, electronics and testing equipment. Basic math skills required to take measurements, change speedometers, read manuals and perform service work. Applicable safety training, licenses and certifications for the job assignment. Must have own tools (Tool Allowance provided). Must have and maintain a valid Class C operator driver's license to operate company pickup trucks; CDL license is preferred.     Job Description With general direction from the Shop Supervisor, provides a wide range of technical services on company trucks and trailers. This is a skilled mechanic position that requires significant technical training and/or experience. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US without restrictions. Job Type: Full-time (overtime available) *Flexible Part-Time scheduling available, if needed* Pay: $25 starting Specific Duties: Performs thorough, accurate Preventative Maintenance inspections. Following schedules completes all required PM maintenance operations including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation. With direction from the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, performs unscheduled maintenance as needed. Performs complex operations including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs and field tests. Must operate CDL vehicles to perform road tests, as well as shuttle in an out of the garage for repairs and maintenance. This is a safety sensitive job, and all duties are regulated by the DOT. Must be able to lift heavy equipment (up to 50lbs) when necessary. Must be able to operate bench grinder, torch, drill press, jack and jack stands, oil pumps, power washer, and other hand tools required to perform work. Emergency conditions may require calls at home, extended hours, or weekend work. Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately. Maintains tools and workplaces so that conditions are neat and orderly. Must be thoroughly familiar with all safety provisions associated with vehicle maintenance. Understands OSHA standards and provisions. Understands and conforms to State EPA regulations regarding disposal of toxic waste substances. Performs other duties as required. Knowledge AND Skills Knowledge of tools, procedures, technical skills and safety rules used in the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered equipment. Ability to deal with problems and find solutions. Must have knowledge of Federal and State regulations. Operational knowledge of diesel fueled vehicles, and shop equipment and tools. Scheduling and setting priorities for work to be accomplished. Inspection of equipment and diagnose mechanical defects.
