* PURPOSE/SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITY:
* To describe the responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer for the Blenheim facility of Woodbridge Foam Corporation. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager
4.1 Duties and Responsibilities
* Evaluates manufacturing processes; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators. *
* Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements *
* Purchase and manage new capital manufacturing equipment implementation, budget and timelines.
* Conduct and audit time studies/standardized work for productivity. *
* Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; meeting internal and external customer requirements; conferring with equipment vendors. *
* Execute LEAN manufacturing techniques and design.
* Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout. *
* Create processes and procedures to help the company meet budgetary goals as well as performance quotas *
* Communicate WPS philosophy, vision and expectations.
* Assure product and process quality by establishing standards, confirming manufacturing processes.
* Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
* Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
* Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and record business improvement areas.
* Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
* Participate in brainstorming sessions and cross-departmental meetings to ensure collaboration and cohesion
* Generating and modifying plant layout /assembly drawings using AutoCAD
* Maintains product and process database, entering data.
* Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technical team.
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as required.
* Learning Process Engineer role to back-up coverage, some shift work may be required for this task.
* Other assignments as requested.
* These tasks are the essential duties of this position.
4.2 Working Conditions
The Manufacturing Engineer's function is performed in the office and plant environments; therefore, a moderate amount of physical effort is required. This may involve assisting the production personnel with reviewing processes, performing quality checks, etc. In addition, a portion of time may be spent in a sitting position at a personal computer terminal.
Certain aspects of this job cause tension and anxiety. Examples of such:
* Handling conflicting priorities under strict deadlines.
* Concentration and accurate responses are required for investigation
* Constant interruptions (i.e. phone) regarding all work-related issues
The demands of the position are such that overtime may be required at times
4.3 Requirements
* • Minimum of a bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering discipline
* • Minimum of 3-5 years related experience in manufacturing or assembly processes in fast paced
* environment
* • Working knowledge of manufacturing / mechanical processes and equipment
* • Experience designing, operating, troubleshooting, or maintaining complex production
* machinery is desirable
* Experience coordinating the design, building and implementation of capital equipment
* • Knowledge of computer or PLC based machine control systems is desirable
* • CAD experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
* • Knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma theory and practices
* • Strong skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) with the
* ability to learn new systems and tools quickly
* • Good mechanical / technical skills
* • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
* • Possess excellent leadership & teamwork abilities and organizational skills
