Essential Job Duties: The Environmental Staff Scientist will work within the Environmental group assisting with the workload. Primary duties include but are not limited to:
Travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, and onsite inspections/visits.
Implementing field sampling and investigation plans.
Preparation of field forms, memos, and written reports.
Coordinate, schedule, and perform site inspections .
Completing emergency spill cleanups.
Oversight of cleanups by subcontractors.
Other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with internal project teams and clients.
Strong technical writing skills, including an attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness. Will need to document site conditions in field notes and write technical reports.
Flexible working style and willingness to modify schedule to meet deadlines and client needs.

Education and Experience Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, geology, biology, or related field

This position requires the use of a company vehicle on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position as no initial supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: Job assignments in the field often involve work on sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. Participation in an OSHA-mandated medical surveillance program will be required, and safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Duties include the regular use of computer and phone systems.
Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Currently hold or have the ability to obtain an E-Railsafe, 40-Hour Hazwoper/8-Hour Refresher certification within 30 days from hire date. Safety training will be provided by Pinnacle.
Having, or the ability to obtain, a Class A commercial driver's license and/or a DOT health card is a plus.
Ability to operate a skid steer is a plus.
Climb ladders or steps where equipment is located, or to perform required inspections.
Ability to carry up to 40 pounds and work in conditions that may feature rough terrain.
Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to adjust equipment.
Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) is required for this position.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. As an exempt employee, additional hours in the evenings and weekends work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel: This position requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long distance travel may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with geologic /engineering calculations using computer-based technical tools;
Technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;

About this position
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated environmental contractual. As an Environmental and Biodiversity consultant, you will support the implementation of the Bank's operations. You will ensure they comply with the IDB's Environmental and Social Policy Framework (ESPF) and internationally recognized best practices. In addition, this position requires solid competencies under ESPS 6 (Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Management of Living Natural Resources), including biodiversity impact assessment, biodiversity action plans, habitat classification (modified, natural, and critical), critical habitat evaluation, ecosystem services analysis, and natural resource management.
You will work in the Environmental and Social Solutions Division (VPS/ESG) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). ESG is responsible for ensuring that IDB-financed projects and other activities are environmentally and socially sustainable and comply with the Bank's environmental and social policy framework (ESPF) and previous environmental and social safeguard policies. Specialists in VPS/ESG provide the Bank and its borrowers with guidance on environmental and social safeguard issues and participate in project teams, providing technical input on social and environmental issues during project preparation/due diligence and supervision.
What you'll do
The contractual will be supervised by a Group Head in one of ESG's Support to Operations Groups, providing environmental support in the preparation and supervision of operations and other activities, not limited to the following:
* Provide environmental support for project preparation and supervision under the guidance of a Group Head.
* Prepare Initial Environmental and Social Review Summaries (iESRS) and ESRS.
* Draft terms of reference (TORs) and review ESAs, ESMPs, ESMSs, BAPs, and related instruments.
* Participate in preparation missions and contribute to aide-mémoires.
* Join supervision missions and produce supervision reports and aide-mémoires.
* Review internal/external documents and provide written recommendations.

* Support development and review of biodiversity action plans (BAPs) and critical habitat strategies.

* Provide ESPF, including ESPS 6, trainings and participate in meetings with executing agencies and project team leaders.
What you'll need
* Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in environmental management, environmental sciences, biology, ecology, geography, forestry, range science, natural resource management, or related disciplines aligned with the ESPF and primarily to the ESPS 6.
* Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in the fields mentioned above. Knowledge of the IDB's ESPF or experience working with other multilateral development banks' policies is preferable. Additional required experience includes at least three of the following: biodiversity fieldwork, critical habitat assessment, habitat mapping, ecosystem services analysis, species distribution analysis, sustainable resource management, or work with IFC/IDB ESPS 6 or similar multilateral development bank policies. Demonstrated taxonomic, ecological, or biogeographical expertise in species or ecosystems relevant to Latin America and the Caribbean is preferable.
