The CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program seeks a Fellow to support our growing portfolio of work on U.S. electricity infrastructure, particularly exploring challenges and opportunities in scaling transmission and generation to meet rapid load growth.
The Fellow's responsibilities will include policy research, data analysis, project management, proposal development, and administration. The Fellow will have opportunities to develop a research portfolio, establish personal expertise, and instigate projects to meet program needs and personal ambitions. The successful candidate will be a team player, possess excellent research, writing and communication skills, and have an entrepreneurial spirit and drive to turn ideas into impact. Demonstrated experience with electricity infrastructure and nuclear energy will be preferred.
The salary band for this role is $90,000 -$130,000, commensurate with experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
* Draft original commentaries, analysis, and reports; prepare project-related research products (including multimedia); and contribute to collaborative research and writing tasks.
* Serve as substantive expert on electricity system and large loads, including at CSIS and external workshops, events, and podcasts.
* Take initiative to develop new writing, research, and project ideas.
* Contribute to the thought leadership and strategic direction of the program.
* Develop work plans and timelines for research projects and coordinates both internal and outside experts to execute them on schedule.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* 4-6 years of experience in a related energy sector (electricity system, nuclear energy, power markets, permitting reform, grid interconnection, transmission planning).
* Relevant advanced degree.
* Demonstrated knowledge of federal and regional electricity regulatory structures (including FERC and ISO/RTOs)
* Excellent research and writing skills.
* Strong project management and attention to detail preferred.
* Ability to work well independently and collaboratively as needed.
* Must possess a self-starting and entrepreneurial outlook.

About the role
Job Description
Reworld is seeking a self-motivated, hardworking, and detail-oriented EnvironmentalTechnician to join our Environmental Division. This role offers the opportunity to work both in the office and in the field, supporting a wide range of environmental projects. An environmental background is beneficial but not required - we're looking for individuals eager to learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful work that supports our sustainability mission.
Role Responsibilities:
Act as a liaison between the Project Manager and field staff, ensuring clear communication and coordination throughout project execution.
Assist Project Managers with daily administrative and project tasks, including preparing job estimates, proposals, environmental documents, client invoices, and insurance certifications.
Coordinate division meetings and provide progress updates on active projects.
Complete and assist with environmental reports such as Environmental Risk Assessments, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and other required documentation.
Perform soil and groundwater sampling and assist with Phase II Site Investigations and Phase III Remediation Projects.
Operate and maintain environmental equipment including PIDs and other sampling instruments.
Supervise storage tank remediation projects and support field teams with remediation efforts.
Review and interpret analytical laboratory reports, assist in waste profiling and characterization, and ensure proper disposal approvals.
Develop and maintain project-specific documentation, including manifests, daily logs, permits, and Health & Safety Plans.
Conduct site inspections and help facilitate daily tailgate safety meetings in the field.

Familiarity with environmental sampling, remediation, or reporting is a plus (training provided).

Our Site Assessment and Remediation Team and Projects

What You'll Be Doing
As a valuable part of our Site Assessment and Remediation Team, a Project Environmental Scientist will support a variety of projects and gain hands-on experience with responsibilities such as:

Conduct site inspections, evaluate environmental conditions, and document findings

Participate in the emergency response on-call rotation for power utility companies
What You'll Need
Have at least 5 years of experience in environmental consulting or a related field
Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or Engineering
Maintain an active OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
Carry a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a good driving record
Work effectively and maintain strong relationships with teams and clients to meet project goals
