    Summary/Objective: The Senior Estimator will be responsible for developing the bid for assigned commercial projects. The Senior Estimator will take the lead when multiple estimators are working on the same project. The projects required to price can be hard (bid/spec), negotiated, or design/build bids. Essential Functions Evaluate drawings and specifications for assigned project bids, and determine which trades to invite for subcontractor pricing Build relationships with subcontractors by communicating by phone, email, and networking events to continuously expand SCI's network of subs Develop and enhance Speedwell's relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, Architects, and clients Attends pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess the conditions of the site or existing building, as necessary Communicates with Architects, design professionals, and clients to determine project requirements and ensure accurate interpretation of drawings through a detailed review of bid documents Submits questions through the RFI process to bring clarity for bidding Requests and receives subcontractor bids, follows up with sub by phone to ensure a minimum of 3 bidders per trade Interact with subcontractors to review scopes and confirm the comprehensiveness of the bid prior to submission. Develops scope sheets to compare subs for each trade Completes estimates and proposal documents for submission to the client Maintains adequate estimating schedule while managing multiple large bid projects ($10 million and over) Coordinates and conducts hand-off meetings with the Project management team when the bid is awarded to Speedwell Construction Has an extensive understanding of the building process and distinct types of exterior and interior finishing systems Trains and mentors other members of the estimating team to help them grow their skills and knowledge Competencies: Attitude: maintains a healthy and positive attitude toward our work, our Company, our industry partners, and our customers Interpersonal Skills: listen to others, maintain confidentiality, focus on solving conflicts Oral and Written Communication: speak clearly and positively, participate in meetings, seek clarification, and respond to questions. Work Environment: The employee will be in a busy office area. The estimator may be outdoors while attending pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess the site's conditions or the existing building. Personal Protective Equipment must be used as required in certain situations. Physical Demands: The estimator spends long hours sitting at a desk. The employee spends most of their day using office equipment, which may cause eye or muscle strain. The employee will occasionally need to lift some office equipment, supplies, and materials (15 lbs.) While attending job sites, the employee may be required to climb ladders and cross uneven ground occasionally. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is an exempt, full-time position in the Manheim, PA office (no remote work). The hours of work are Monday through Friday, with 40+ hours per week being the minimum expectation. Travel: The employee will primarily be at the office, occasionally traveling to pre-bids, job sites, and educational training. Company vehicles are provided for any travel requirements. Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent Advanced understanding of Information Technology Advanced understanding of construction types, materials, and methods Ten or more years of experience estimating in the construction industry Preferred Education and Experience: 4-year College degree in a construction-related field preferred Construction field experience Experience estimating projects over $10 million, including hotels and multi-family Familiarity with Viewpoint, Bluebeam, Office 365, and bid software such as Smartbid Work Authorization/Clearances: The employee must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and Motor Vehicle Record review. Relationships: • Reports to the Estimating Manager • Works alongside Preconstruction Team & MEP Team • Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, Business Development and Self-Perform Teams, Clients Authority: • Maintain or manage relationships with subcontractors • Provide feedback to Estimating and Preconstruction Team • When acting as a Bid Captain on a project, lead the bid team for a successful submission Accountability: • Meets deadlines • Maintains strong relationships with subcontractors • Collaborates with estimating and preconstruction teams for successful submissions • Follows the Wohlsen policies and procedures • Continuous improvement MEP Estimator Qualifications: • BS degree in Construction Technology, Engineering or other related disciplines, or related experience in the construction industry. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software Systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint • Have a valid driver's license with the ability to travel to regional offices to support local estimating projects. • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship. • Ability to work additional hours to meet business plan goals. Physical Requirements: In a normal day, this position requires little to no standing or walking. In a normal day, the employee must be able to sit for 7+ hours. In a normal day, the employee must be able to drive 1-4 hours. Employee must be able to lift/carry up to 10 lbs. maximum; occasionally carry small objects.
