Under minimal guidance, assign job tasks to Sheetmetal Technicians in their charge in accordance with approved or accepted data and with serviceable materials and assist with same, assuring that all work is documented on the forms set forth in the repair station manual. Assuring all assigned work tasks are completed relative to the completion schedule and department budget. Plans, lays' out, fabricates, installs, assembles, and repairs both internal and external aircraft structures and surfaces on VIP aircraft in accordance with technical manuals, engineering drawings, and FAA regulations. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Assist and instruct work crew with fabrication or installation of Sheetmetal parts and assemblies per engineering drawings or maintenance manuals on VIP aircraft ensuring all FAA and Company requirements are met. 2. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC: 1. High school diploma or GED, plus a technical training/diploma/certificate in aircraft mechanics, or aeronautics from at least a 2 year technology institution plus 3 years of applicable experience in the same or similar job in the military or within the aviation industry; or 6 years of applicable experience in same or similar job within the aviation industry. 2. May clean or degrease weld joint or workplace, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath. May repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. May remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder or power chipper. May preheat work piece, using hand torch or heating furnace. May cut metal plates or structural shapes. - Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. - Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies. - May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of materials and work pieces during installation. - Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment. - Assists other mechanics as needed. - Respiratory protection is common and may be required. - Required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
