The Mechanically Trained Operator (MTO) is a critical role within the production team, designed to bridge operational efficiency and mechanical aptitude in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Reporting to the Operations Lead, the MTO will operate, maintain, and make minor adjustments to high-speed production equipment to minimize downtime, maximize productivity, and ensure the highest quality standards are met.
This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with both production and maintenance teams.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Operational Efficiency
Operate high-speed packaging and production equipment to meet daily targets.
Assist in equipment setup, changeovers, and adjustments to minimize downtime and ensure smooth workflows.
Perform minor mechanical maintenance, including clearing jams, tightening fasteners, and replacing simple components, such as belts or seals.
Support efforts to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by minimizing stoppages and addressing inefficiencies.
Mechanical Support
Troubleshoot and resolve minor mechanical issues, escalating more complex problems to the Maintenance Technician or Maintenance Team Lead.
Conduct routine equipment inspections, lubrication, and cleaning to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure timely repairs and equipment upkeep.
Team Support & Employee Engagement
Work closely with the Packaging & Bakery Lead to address production and equipment challenges.
Provide feedback on equipment performance and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency.
Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration with production and maintenance teams.
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately record downtime, repairs, and maintenance activities in reporting systems.
Track and report production throughput, material usage, and waste to maintain data integrity and support operational efficiency.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Adhere to OSHA, STATE, GMP, SQF, and HACCP standards, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.
Actively participate in safety initiatives and report any potential hazards or concerns.
Day to Day Essential Work:
Operate and monitor equipment, making adjustments to maintain production flow and product quality.
Collaborate with team members to resolve issues and maintain seamless operations.
Perform minor mechanical adjustments and report equipment status during shift huddles.
Occasional Work:
Assist with developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation and maintenance tasks.
Participate in Kaizen events to identify and implement opportunities for process and equipment improvement, driving efficiency and cost savings.
Conduct 5 Whys analyses and other problem-solving methodologies to determine the root cause of recurring equipment issues and implement corrective actions.
Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving overall plant performance, including energy efficiency and waste reduction initiatives.

Educational & Experience Requirements
Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in speed packaging.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Technical training in industrial mechanics is a plus.
Language: Proficiency in English both in written and oral communication
Skills:
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, including gears, bearings, and sprockets.
Proficiency with tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, calipers, and measuring tools.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with CMMS systems and production reporting tools is a plus.

Create, coordinate and complete shipments of goods between company and clients. Coordinate with off-site logistics locations, suppliers and vendors to meet deadlines and track all shipments. Duties and Responsibilities
Performs daily activities for an assigned shift or within an assigned area or function.
Adheres to specific warehouse work instructions for receiving, labeling, storing, shipping and value add services as required in accordance to DSV Air & Sea standard policies and procedures.
Meets company objectives in the areas of performance, safety, quality, leadership, and customer service.
Works with the supervisor, warehouse manager and freight forwarding teams to identify areas to improve/enhance overall service to the client.
Unloads inbound shipments safely and move products to the correct destination. Efficiently stage, stack and load the merchandise in the appropriate areas
Efficiently moves product from staging and/or unloading areas into the correct load door and the assigned trailer. Ensures that the trailer is secured and chocked prior to entering the trailer in accordance to the safety polices.
Loads/Unloads product correctly using the appropriate handling techniques. Segregate, check, and stage inbound product correctly.
Verifies the driver, trailer, and bills are all for that specific carrier and location. Counts freight with the driver and ensures all requirements are followed. Loads the trailer for safe transit and ensures the driver signs all required paperwork.
Performs all Forklift activities as required. Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking as needed; maintain the facility to provide a clean, safe work environment.
Maintains and organized and orderly desk/office area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Follow all safety procedures, including the use of PPE as required.
Respond to alarms, identify, and troubleshoot issues.
Maintain neat and orderly staging areas.
Move inventory to various locations manually and by operating mechanical equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and handcart.
Maintain proper documentation for materials, including batches, material changes, and material locations.
Maintain tools and components needed to perform tasks per current Good Manufacturing Practices.
Assist with physical inventory and perform cycle counts.
Stage resins and components to work orders and allocate materials to appropriate production areas.
Daily cleaning for all Blender / Dryer filters.
Maintain all Blenders / Dryers to ensure they remain full and working properly.
Complete all needed paperwork in a timely manner, Lot changes, Job verifications, Material verification report, Two-hour check list, etc.
Complete proper restocking of materials.
Plan so material and color changes happen in a timely manner, according to production schedule.
Communicate potential shortages to Warehouse Leadership and Production.
Verify back flushed materials are issued properly.
Control and maintain scrap generated by production.
Perform line clearances outside of the clean room.
Fill out inventory tags for restock of material after orders are complete.
Assemble cartons and containers using appropriate hand tools.
Assist with Package and seal molded and/or assembled product per company and customer specifications as needed.
Verify labels and product stacked on skids per lot information and product specification.
Ensure proper performance of equipment pertaining to resins and materials.
Clean and maintain auxiliary material handling systems and support equipment, including gaylords and grinders.
Maintain housekeeping of material loading areas and airlock.
Support lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
Plan so materials and color changes happen in a timely manner, according to production schedule.
Perform Line clearances outside of the clean room.
Maintain neat and orderly warehouse and staging areas, “5S”.
Move inventory to various locations manually and by operating mechanical equipment, including but not limited to forklift, pallet jack, and handcart.
Package, Label, and stack product on skids per Lot information and product specification.
Report any out of line conditions, damaged equipment to Supervisor or Maintenance.
Retrieve packing material from warehouse.
Support and maintain all policies of the company including but not limited to Health and Safety Requirements, GMP and standard work procedures, Continuous Improvement & ISO Standards,
Operate packaging equipment as required per product specifications and/or work instructions.
Complete Packaging auxiliary equipment (TPM) Total Productive Maintenance activities as needed.
Follow instructions as required per ID sheets and visuals.
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
