INDUS IT VALLEY company history timeline

1800

The signs of a gradual decline of the Indus River Valley Civilization are believed to have started around 1800 BC. By 1700 BC, most of the cities were abandoned.

1829

One of these sites was Harappa, which he found in 1829 CE. He seems to have left the site fairly quickly, after making a record of it in his notes but, having no knowledge of who could have built the city, wrongly attributed it to Alexander the Great during his campaigns in India c.

1857

In 1857, the British engineers accidentally used bricks from the Harappa ruins for building the East Indian Railway line between Karachi and Lahore.

1875

Cunningham began excavations of the site and published his interpretation in 1875 CE (in which he identified and named the Indus Script) but this was incomplete and lacked definition because Harappa remained isolated with no connection to any known past civilization which could have built it.

1900

1900 BCE The rise of the great Indian cities of Mohenjo Daro and Harappa.

1912

In the year 1912, J. Fleet discovered Harappan seals.

1926

The most famous artwork is the bronze statuette, standing 4 inches (10 cm) tall, known as “Dancing Girl” found at Mohenjo-daro in 1926 CE. The piece shows a teenage girl, right hand on her hip, left on her knee, with chin raised as though evaluating the claims of a suitor.

1931

Even though most of the Mohenjodaro city had been unearthed by 1931, the excavation campaigns continued to be undertaken.

1944

Sir Mortimer Wheeler, the then director of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), led one such campaign in 1944.

1947

After the partition of India in 1947, the area of the Indus Valley Civilization was divided between India and Pakistan.

1977

Richard started his career with the United States Navy in 1977 as an Electronic Technician.
