This role bridges operations, controls engineering, and process visualization-ensuring safe, reliable, and intuitive system interfaces for operators and engineers. Key Responsibilities Design & Development Architect and implement new HMI applications using FactoryTalk View SE (distributed and standalone configurations). Configure and optimize FactoryTalk Linx, FactoryTalk Directory, and RSLinx Enterprise communications. Develop P&ID-based process screens, navigation structures, alarm banners, and trend displays. Implement dynamic graphics, tag-based visibility, security-based user interfaces, and custom scripts. Integration & Commissioning Integrate HMI systems with Rockwell CompactLogix and ControlLogix PLCs via Ethernet/IP. Coordinate with PLC programmers to map tags, alarms, and state/mode logic. Support HMI deployment on operator workstations and thin clients (Terminal Services, VMWare, or ThinManager environments). Participate in site commissioning, FAT, and SAT testing of automation systems. Operations & Support Troubleshoot live HMI issues, alarms, and communications between PLCs, servers, and clients. Perform system upgrades, backup management, and version control within FactoryTalk View SE. Maintain documentation: tag lists, screen inventories, alarm configurations, and user manuals. Ensure HMI systems meet ISA-101, ISA-18.2, and corporate HMI design standards for usability and safety. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with process engineers, I&E technicians, and safety teams to represent real-time plant data accurately. Participate in safety system integration and interlock visualization. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline. 3-7 years of experience designing and deploying HMI/SCADA systems in an industrial setting. Proven expertise with: FactoryTalk View SE (Site Edition) FactoryTalk Linx / RSLinx Enterprise Rockwell CompactLogix or ControlLogix PLCs Experience with Ethernet/IP networks, data servers, and CIP tag addressing. Strong understanding of industrial processes (e.g., power generation, chemical, nuclear, or thermal systems). Familiarity with Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and industrial network segmentation. Preferred Skills Knowledge of FactoryTalk View ME, PanelView Plus, and ThinManager. Experience with OPC-UA/DA, SQL data logging, or historian systems (FactoryTalk Historian, OSIsoft PI). Experience following ISA-106 (Procedural Automation for Continuous Process Operations). Understanding of safety systems integration (SIL-rated loops, interlocks, trip displays). Strong scripting skills in VBA or structured text for custom HMI logic. Exposure to virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V) and redundant SCADA servers. Attributes Excellent communication and documentation skills. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving mindset.
