**Job Overview**
Jensen Hughes is seeking a motivated Senior Test Engineer to join the Research, Development, Testing + Evaluation team in the Fire Testing Lab at the global company headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. The successful candidate will work independently and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of professional consultants and engineers to help our clients answer some of the industry's most challenging fire protection questions. This role will involve the design, execution, and analysis of research and testing programs. Typical projects range from bench-scale to full-scale testing for evaluation of fire protection system efficacy, consequence characterization for industrial processes and energy storage systems, product testing and evaluation, demonstrative testing for litigation support, performance-based comparison of construction materials for use in engineering judgments, numerical model validation, and applied research initiatives.
**Responsibilities**
+ Design and implement test plans and protocols for evaluating the fire safety performance of products, including fire suppression systems, detection devices, new construction materials, and other related products.
+ Identify and apply specialized test equipment and instrumentation, such as calorimeters, smoke chambers, thermal imaging cameras, and gas analyzers, to accurately measure and record relevant test parameters.
+ Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of new and existing laboratory facilities and equipment.
+ Conduct a wide range of fire safety tests, including but not limited to fire resistance, flame spread, smoke detection, and heat release rate tests, in accordance with applicable industry standards.
+ Strategically manage multiple projects concurrently, from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, quality standards, and client deliverables.
+ Collect, process, and analyze test data using various data processing techniques.
+ Communicate research findings, test results, and recommendations clearly and concisely through test reports, technical documentation, and presentations tailored to the needs of our diverse clientele.
+ Participate in technical discussions and provide expert guidance on fire safety testing matters to internal stakeholders, partners, and clients.
+ Mentor junior lab engineers by demonstrating best practices and facilitating an environment where practical testing skills can be developed.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
+ Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a client-focused laboratory environment with a proven track record of delivering innovative client-oriented testing solutions, preferably within the fire protection industry. Experience with li-ion battery abuse and fire testing at cell, module, and unit scales is preferred.
+ Available to work full time onsite at the test facility in Baltimore, MD, USA (BWI area).
+ Knowledge and/or experience with the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus, including hood calorimeters, test furnaces, and other specialized instrumentation.
+ Experienced at conducting bench-scale to full-scale fire tests, applying best practices for test documentation, and operating testing equipment and instrumentation.
+ Knowledge and/or experience with data collection software, hardware, and instrumentation, including the calibration, installation, and operation of instruments intended for measurement of temperature, heat flux, pressure, gas concentrations, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

Prepare specifications materials through the use of research and equipment catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection and payment of items specific to a project

Job Overview
Jensen Hughes is seeking a mid- to senior-level Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineer with experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to join our growing global consulting practice. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of energy storage safety, resilience, and innovation-supporting clients across domestic and international markets.
Experience may include BESS manufacturing, system design, safety assessment, testing, research, project management, code compliance, or operational risk evaluation. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to help expand Jensen Hughes' BESS consulting capabilities while delivering high-impact technical solutions for clients.

Responsibilities
Lead and support BESS-related consulting projects from concept through completion, including safety assessments, hazard analyses, code and standards evaluations, and performance-based design solutions.
Apply advanced engineering principles to evaluate fire, explosion, and thermal runaway risks associated with lithium-ion and other energy storage technologies.
Perform or oversee computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and other analytical methods to assess fire, smoke, gas dispersion, and thermal impacts.
Develop technical reports, design documentation, procedures, and guidance materials that are clear, accurate, and client-ready.
Support research initiatives related to emerging BESS technologies, testing methodologies, and evolving codes and standards.
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, understanding their goals and translating complex engineering concepts into practical recommendations.
Interface directly with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), manufacturers, insurers, and project stakeholders to support project success.
Ensure client needs, expectations, and project deliverables are met with a high standard of quality and professionalism.
Contribute to the development and execution of growth strategies for Jensen Hughes' BESS consulting practice.
Support business development efforts through proposal development, scope definition, fee estimates, and technical presentations.
Identify emerging market trends, client needs, and service opportunities related to energy storage systems.
Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams across fire protection, electrical, mechanical, and risk engineering.
Mentor and support junior staff through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.
Participate in industry activities such as conferences, technical committees, standards development, and professional working groups.
Stay current with evolving codes, standards, and best practices related to BESS, fire protection, and life safety.
Requirements and Qualifications
Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree will be considered with relevant professional experience.
Five (5+) plus years of professional experience in BESS-related engineering, safety, research, manufacturing, design, testing, or consulting.
Strong analytical skills, including experience with or exposure to CFD modeling and performance-based analysis.
Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Fully bilingual in Mandarin and English (written and verbal) required.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including periodic travel between the United States and Asia (anticipated at least twice per year).

**Responsibilities**
As an Associate Fire Protection Engineer, you'll work under the guidance of licensed professionals to:
+ Deliver fire protection services including life safety code consulting, sprinkler and fire alarm design, and performance-based engineering.
+ Create plans, specifications, and inspection reports that meet top-tier professional standards.
+ Assist in the resolution of design problems by performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
+ Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.
+ Analyze building codes, egress systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control, and sprinkler systems.
+ Assist our Research, Development, Testing & Evaluation team with fire testing, computational analysis, and materials evaluations.
+ Prepare and present technical reports to project leaders and clients.
**Requirements and Qualifications**
