DUTIES

leadership of The Picket, Shepherd University's student-run news publication. The Managing Editor will ensure that all news content-based tasks are completed. The Managing Editor shall serve on the Editorial Board of the news organization and chair meetings in the absence of the Editor. The Editorial board shall be comprised of all editors of The Picket.
The Managing Editor in consultation with section editors, is responsible for the content of the Sports, Arts & Style and News sections, including final copy. The Managing Editor, or a
designated editor in his or her absence, is to serve as an ambassador to the Shepherd University community. The Managing Editor ensures all ethics, personnel and staff performance policies of The Picket which are reviewed with staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Shepherd student in good standing with strong communication skills and demonstrated steady work ethic. This position is for students who have leadership experience in the daily operations of The Picket, or a similar collegiate student-run publication.
The managing editor supervises all Picket editorial staff. The managing editor in coordination with other editors is responsible for guiding Picket coverage, making assignments for stories and photographs, editing copy, writing headlines, posting stories and maintaining and expanding the
visibility of The Picket's social media platforms. The managing editor interviews and hires the Sports, Arts & Style and News section editors and a deputy managing editor, if desired. The
managing editor has ultimate decision-making authority in the hiring of staff reporters in consultation with other editors.
The managing editor presides over weekly news budget meetings with The Picket staff.
The managing editor makes decisions on buying equipment in consultation with the Business Manager and The Picket Advisor.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have previous experience working with The Picket, with strong team-building skills, as well an ability to work extremely well with others in a diverse campus community environment. The preferred candidate will also have a working knowledge of Associated Press style, reporting experience, self-motivation, and the ability to multi-task and deadlines.
