Familiar with the use of Precision Measuring Instrumentation Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals. Ability to plan and make working diagrams and circuits. Duties Help You will serve as an Expert Electrician leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed. You will be responsible for the repair, overhaul, installation, modification, calibration, and test of electrical systems and equipment on naval surface ships and submarines, both nuclear and non-nuclear. You will set up, operate, and troubleshoot various types of equipment utilized to manufacture and overhaul surface and sub-surface ship's components. You will disassemble, clean, and replace visually found defective parts, reassemble, check for more faulty components, replaces the same, align, calibrate and check out equipment using known standards and test equipment. You will oversee adjustments and repairs to maintain operation of electrical equipment, cause of malfunction or defects and repairs or replaces worn, damaged, or defective parts. You will assure that all work assignments of the groups are carried out on any of the three shifts as assigned. You will pass instructions received from supervisors and provide overview of tasks to be performed to other workers. You will keep supervisor apprised of potential problems, controversial issues, and recommend corrective actions. You will inspect completed and in process work for quality of workmanship and adhere to requirements, specifications, standards, plans and schedules. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Under general supervision perform skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead/underground electric transmission, distribution and substation systems and do related work as required. • Construct, maintain and repair overhead/underground electrical distribution, transmission and substation systems including such things as stringing of wire, setting poles and anchors, installing street lights, capacitor banks, transformers, cutouts, crossarms and insulators under all weather conditions and at all hours of day or night. • Install, maintain and repair energized transmission/distribution lines, performing live line work on energized 34. 5 Kv lines and equipment and rubber glove energized 4 Kv lines and equipment. • Perform transmission, distribution and substation line switching, sectionalizing and fusing on a routine and emergency basis. . • Assist in conducting voltage and load surveys. • Assume rotational on call duties, and participate in planned and emergency overtime as required. • May perform any other duties not listed but within the limits of good safe working practices and the job classification. THIS POSITION REQUIRES RESIDENCY IN OUR SERVICE AREA MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or equivalent. • Certified completion of a union or company recognized lineman apprenticeship training program. • Past experience in climbing wooden power poles and working on high voltage power lines. • Must possess or obtain within 6 months a valid Class A California Drivers License. • Knowledge of basic principles of electricity, current theory mathematics, G. Electricity at the substation is transformed from 60 kilovolts (kV) down to 12kV, which can then be distributed as high voltage electric power to campus. The campus electrical distribution system is a largely underground system of 12kV and 4kV cables and switches. Typically, power from multiple sources is brought into individual buildings after being stepped down to 480 volts. Load centers within the buildings step the voltage down to normal service voltages and distribute it to loads throughout the building, with backup emergency power available for all vital loads. The Energy Operations team manages installation, operation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution infrastructure. A Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system provides real-time information and diagnostics of the campus to monitor the power flow throughout the network, allowing for quick response to system faults. **Job Purpose:** Employees in this classification perform journey level and high voltage electrician work involved with the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of the electrical substations, electrical distribution systems, and general low voltage utility controls under general supervision.
