Summary:
The Cath Lab Technologist is responsible for assisting in diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab. This role involves preparing patients and equipment, monitoring hemodynamic data, assisting physicians during procedures, and ensuring patient safety throughout the process. The technologist operates specialized imaging equipment, maintains sterile technique, and collaborates with the healthcare team to provide high-quality patient care. This position requires technical expertise in cardiovascular procedures, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work efficiently in high-pressure situations.
Essential Work Functions:
Prepare and position patients for cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, electrophysiology studies, and other interventional procedures
Assist physicians during procedures by passing catheters, wires, balloons, and stents, and operating fluoroscopy and hemodynamic monitoring equipment
Operate and maintain imaging equipment, contrast injectors, and hemodynamic monitoring systems, ensuring proper functionality
Scrub in and assist with sterile field setup, ensuring adherence to infection control and procedural protocols
Perform sheath removal and hemostasis using manual compression or closure devices as directed
Maintain accurate documentation, including patient records, imaging data, and equipment logs
Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and ensuring proper storage of sterile instruments and medications
Adhere to radiation safety protocols, ensuring proper use of lead aprons, shields, and dosimeters
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements

Ensure specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing by applying the appropriate criteria and change or prepare reagents, controls as necessary and records such in log. Label, accession and distribute specimens so that integrity of patient identification is maintained throughout processing and inoculate specimens from all areas of the body on appropriate media. Initiate orders for blood and/or blood components from the appropriate blood supplier. Follow hospital/laboratory safety and infection control policies and report variances to section supervisors as they occur. Determine appropriateness of manual methods, micro-methods, back-up procedures and initiate such procedures. Use computer system to compare patient results to previous results during the same encounter and investigate discrepancies and report test results within established departmental turn-around times after verifying documentation is complete and accurate. Prepare and interpret gram stains and other wet and dry preparations for bacteriology and parasitology. Perform all routine procedures including, but not limited to, ABORH typing and retesting, antibody detection and identification, compatibility testing and serology procedures. Prepare blood components while maintaining aseptic technique and proper storage. Evaluate serological reactivity to assist with antibody identification and crossmatch incompatibilities. Follow universal precautions at all times when dealing with blood or body fluids and disinfect counter tops at the end of the shift with appropriate cleaner. Operate, calibrate, conduct performance checks, and maintain any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment after orientation, troubleshoot basic instrument malfunctions, and document in the appropriate action log. Determine when an instrument's service representative should be contacted for assistance. Analyze quality control material for each procedure, record values according to section policy, and report to technical supervisor when results are outside established limits. Perform comparison studies of precision, accuracy and linearity on new or existing procedures, record proficiency surveys, and route form and reagent quality control as specified in the quality control manuals. Assist in the clinical orientation of new or less skilled laboratory personnel as requested by the section Supervisor. Assures proper packaging and disposal of waste chemicals. Maintain proper documentation (log) of generated waste. Perform order or result entry (manual or computerized) and reviews information for accuracy before verification. Duties and Responsibilities
• Inspect large-scale aerospace parts at various manufacturing stages from first piece through final inspection using advanced metrology equipment
• Operate Romer arms, Leica AT960 and AT402 laser trackers, CMMs, and 3D scanners (handheld and blue light) for precision measurements
• Perform manual layout inspections using traditional measurement tools and techniques
• Inspect complex components including weldments, integrated assemblies, tooling, and aerospace hardware
• Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, assembly schematics, and technical specifications accurately
• Apply GD&T principles per ASME Y14.5-2009 standards to inspection activities
• Execute and witness test procedures according to established protocols and generate comprehensive test reports

Key Responsibilities
Perform on-site bolting, torquing, tensioning, and induction heating services on critical equipment.
Support field machining, hot tapping, and line-stop operations as needed.

Interpret technical drawings, job packages, and client specifications.

Recommended Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in industrial services, mechanical maintenance, or specialty field service roles (power plants, refineries, petrochemical, or heavy industry preferred).
Certifications/Training:
NCCER, OSHA, or equivalent field qualifications (preferred).
OEM training on induction heating or bolting/tensioning equipment (a plus).
Technical Skills:
Proficient in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic tool operation.
Familiarity with torque/tension charts, machining tolerances, and mechanical fit-up.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Core Duties:
Performs, documents and reports qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests in a prompt manner including internal and external proficiency testing and quality control.
Evaluates all samples for specimen integrity checking data for validity of results, instrument functions, reagent reactivity and investigating any discrepancy with documentation of resolution including QCC, as needed.
Operate, troubleshoot, perform electronic checks and preventive maintenance on various analyzers in designated area, documenting as required and obtaining service as needed.
Maintain adequate supply of reagents and materials in the work area by checking in supplies and keeping all areas stocked, informing the supervisor of need to reorder.
Maintain complete and accurate records, per protocol, within the QC/QA program, notifying the supervisor of any discrepancies and documenting all necessary data.
Orientation instruction and coordination of new employees and MLT students in policies, procedures, and practices required by this facility.
Assist health care personnel to resolve any conflict concerning laboratory tests or personnel documenting entire episode including QCC report and promptly informing the supervisor.
Performs specimen collection as needed, responding promptly.
Utilizes hospital computer system for order communication functions at all levels covered by security code to include verification.
Coordinates activities efficiently in order to provide time necessary to perform, other related duties such as CAP workload recording, checking outstanding orders, and participation in continuing education programs and special projects designated by administration and etc.

QualificationsEducation and Experience
Graduate MT, CLS, CLT or MLT and ASCP Certified
or
Associate Degree MLT, ASCP CERTIFIED
