Role Summary
The General Laborer 3 role will be responsible for coordinating job site activities which may include site cleanup, loading, unloading, handling and distributing materials, fixtures, running a buck hoist, and traffic control. This position may also be responsible for supervising a team within the laborer scope of work. Role responsibilities are not all encompassing as specific work tasks, project types, and build phases drastically vary. This is a broad representation of the type of tasks and requirements required of General Laborers at JE Dunn. Job Description
AZZ has an exciting 1st shift opportunity for a General Laborer at our Chelsea facility. Reporting to the Production Supervisor you will help handle and clean material through the galvanizing process, to help us meet customer commitments.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for tying or assisting with tying material onto racks with wire or chain for safe movement through the galvanizing process.
Use wire to tie material to bow racks, universal racks, or other tooling to prepare for the pickling tanks using specific training methods for the galvanizing process.
Use rope to lift and prepare material for the pickling tanks using specific training methods for galvanizing process.
Operates and visually inspects all equipment (i.e. forklifts, cranes, tooling, etc.) prior to usage to ensure no maintenance is needed.
Learns to rack a variety of materials by assisting others.
Racks, unracks or cleans material in order as directed.
May learn to use a torch to dry materials before hot dipping.
May clean material using a grinder, file, or brush as specified by the customer.
Inspects material for sags, runs, drips, bare spots and reports it to management.
Uses bolt cutters to remove wire from product and tooling and disposes of it per established procedures.
Learns to inspect materials for holes, smothered spots, etc.
Perform housekeeping activities to keep production area and equipment clean and organized.
Confers with supervisors to report material conditions that could result in production or customer problems by form of damage or quality issues.
May assist with training new production helpers as specified by management.

* Responds to work orders in a timely manner and in accordance with OKDE-FMB policies and procedures.
* Moving furniture and equipment when directed by supervisor; mounting bulletin boards and other wall hangings.
* Loading and unloading materials, supplies and equipment.
* Maintaining an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment. Completing necessary logs and reports. Submitting properly completed work orders on time and in accordance with OKDE-FMB policy and procedures.
* Developing a clear understanding of customer's needs and following through with dialogue to ensure communication is understood by both parties.
* Keeping others informed and up-to-date about tasks and projects by providing as much information as necessary for others to resolve common issues or problems.
* Inspects buildings and grounds to identify areas for improvement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and practices of the general building and mechanical trades. Ability to follow simple oral instructions; skill to use hand tools and high speed power tools; to perform the less skilled aspects of the mechanical and building trades; and to physically perform heavy manual labor.
Education and Experience: Requirements at this level is 1 year grounds maintenance experience.

The general laborer's job description is to familiarize himself with all the job parameters, and to handle all the tools, equipment and material to take care of asphalt, sealcoating, and concrete projects.
The general laborer has many responsibilities alongside the mill, alongside the tractor and screed of the asphalt paver, alongside the rollers, and in between these machines, making safety one of his top priorities.
The general laborer's responsibilities are to take care of the project. He will perform this duty by sweeping, brooming, raking, shoveling, lining out the job, sealcoating, crack sealing, tying rebar, setting up frames, and more.
Throughout the shift, the laborers will maintain cleanliness around the project, shoveling up any spilled materials that could negatively affect the appearance of the job site.
At the end of the shift, the general laborers become maintenance men. They will help with cleaning up equipment, ensuring it's wiped down and free of materials that create problems later. The laborers will clean the tools and return them to the tool truck for safekeeping overnight. Don't forget to remove all spray cans and paint cans from equipment so vandals don't mark up your equipment at night. The laborers will also help with fueling the equipment at the end of the shift.
The general laborers answer to the foreman on the job.

Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience with operating power-cutting equipment is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
CPR, First Aid.
Thorough knowledge of the Cooperative standards applying to employee's work.
Thorough knowledge of the territory in which employee operates, the Cooperative facilities therein, and the principal customers' connections thereto.
Proficiency in using and repairing power tools.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write/complete routine reports such as time sheets, accident reports.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, customers, and the general public.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to interact with customers and other employees in a courteous and proper manner.
Should have good working knowledge of OSHA Rules and Regulations and all Cooperative policies and procedures and Service Rules and Regulations and Rates.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
General right-of-way clearing conditions for electric distribution system with irregular hours as deemed necessary by the position. Good dexterity to operate various pieces of brush cutting and tree trimming equipment. Frequent physical activity, to include walking, stooping,
bending, frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., occasional lifting in excess of fifty lbs., climbing, kneeling, reaching, stooping, crawling, pushing, and working in awkward positions and enclosed spaces is normal. Must possess a current Arkansas commercial driver's license and have an insurable driving record. Must be able to operate a variety of motor vehicles, any and all devices pertaining to distribution system right-of-way clearing. Must have good hearing to get equipment noises and conditions accurately identified and analyzed. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately for work and safety compliance. Position requires travel throughout the Cooperative's service territory and regularly working long days to meet deadlines.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is mostly outside. Sometimes there may be extreme weather conditions including wind, rain, snow, and dust, and the risk of electrical shock. Safety precautions and practices are required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with frequent high levels requiring hearing protection.
