Job Summary:
An employee in this classification performs work of routine difficulty performing grounds maintenance, landscaping and snow removal. Work is distinguished by the ability to operate college vehicles that require a CDL license. General supervision is received from the assigned manager.

Essential Duties:
Operate and maintain all grounds equipment used in the Grounds Department for lawn care and landscaping for the purpose of keeping the proper aesthetic appearance of the College grounds. Monitor and report bulk salt levels and contact vendor for replenishment.
Perform parking lot and sidewalk maintenance which includes, crack sealing/pot hole patching/spot replacement/sealing/snow removal and salting to the extent that will ensure that conditions of the campus remain accessible by the public, staff, students, administration, and faculty.
Operate and maintain all larger college-owned vehicles which require a CDL to drive. This would include driving/operating the vehicle to pick-up materials needed for college projects or donations to Elgin Community College. Some tasks require this type of specialized vehicle to accomplish the request.
Putting up and changing informational, directional, and parking type signs around the campus to assist the public's awareness.
Assist in furniture and office equipment moves and storage and help with pickup and delivery of donations to the college.
Take college-owned CDL vehicles in for State of Illinois certified safety inspections. This would include vehicles outside of the O&M department.
Maintains required training, licensure and/or certifications
Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.

The university is currently seeking a qualified individual to join our facilities team in the role of Groundskeeper. Under direct supervision from the Director of Facilities, this position is responsible for the general appearance, upkeep & maintenance of campus grounds.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Maintain grounds; including lawn areas, planting beds, sidewalks, parking lots, and streets
* Perform seeding, planting, and transplanting of flowers, trees, shrubs and lawns
* Water, weed, and cultivate planting beds; remove spent blooms and trim hedges and shrubs
* Apply chemicals used in grounds keeping (horticulture, turf management, and floriculture)
* Perform grounds cleaning of trash and debris
* Perform Spring and Fall grounds clean-up activities on campus
* Collect trash from buildings and grounds and place in designated trash and recycling dumpsters
* Operate tractors with attachments such as mowers, seeders, sprayers, aerators, snow plows and snow blowers
* Ensure equipment is operational by performing routine/preventative maintenance and clean equipment and machines within reasonable capabilities
* Perform snow and ice removal from parking lots and sidewalks
* Assist in directing the work of student employees as directed by supervisor
* Respond to calls for emergency service including snow removal
* Assist maintenance personnel and campus setups as directed
Qualifications include:
The successful candidate must have:
* A high school diploma and/or GED and 1 year of grounds or related work experience
* Valid drivers' license
* Ability to attain an Iowa Applications Permit for herbicides and pesticides

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Groundskeeper are as follows:
* Keep property, management office, landscaping clean by inspecting property each morning and picking up any trash littering the grounds.
* Keep mail rooms clean--pick up trash, sweep floors, remove dated notices from bulletin boards, etc.
* Replace lightbulbs in common areas and breezeways as needed.
* Replace all first-floor window screens upon request.
* Assist with apartment make-readies as requested--trash vacant units, caulk, check appliances and smoke detector, replace parts, etc.
* Clean air conditioning vents and replace filter in all vacant apartments.
* Install, move and hook up appliances.
* Replace air filters as scheduled for all occupied apartments.
* Clean pool area--hose down area, pick up trash, straighten chairs, etc.
* Perform light painting duties as directed.
* Clean vacant apartments between residents.
* Assist the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Technician as requested.
Qualifications
The qualifications for a Groundskeeper are as follows:
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* TBD - 25 hours a week - flexible
* Some experience in groundskeeping, caretaking or janitorial.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to multitask, stay organized and meet deadlines.
