Overview
This role is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and underwriting a wide range of consumer and home equity lending products, including both secured and unsecured loans and lines of credit. The underwriter ensures lending decisions align with internal credit standards, regulatory requirements, and overall risk tolerance, while supporting a member-focused lending environment.
Key Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and underwrite residential home equity loans/lines and consumer loan applications
Evaluate borrower creditworthiness using credit reports, income documentation, asset verification, and other financial data
Assess credit risk and determine approval, denial, or escalation recommendations in accordance with lending authority
Ensure lending decisions comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as internal policies
Partner with branch teams and internal stakeholders to obtain additional documentation or clarification when needed
Clearly communicate underwriting decisions and conditions in a timely and professional manner
Maintain complete and accurate loan files and underwriting documentation
Support internal staff by providing guidance on underwriting decisions and loan structure
Prepare recurring reports for leadership and committee review as requested

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience underwriting consumer and home equity loans in a banking or credit union setting
Strong knowledge of consumer and residential lending, credit analysis, and risk evaluation
Working familiarity with loan origination systems and related financial software
Solid understanding of applicable regulations including TRID, HMDA, Reg B, and Fair Lending
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
Clear, professional communication skills and a collaborative work style
NMLS registration preferred or willingness to obtain
Education
Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience

Position Overview:
Exceptional mortgage processor sought to support a high-performing origination team. Competitive compensation structure with significant bonus potential-six-figure total income achievable. Job Responsibilities:
Perform a thorough review and analysis of borrower's credit, employment, income, and assets as required by the loan program before submitting to underwriting.
Assemble the complete loan package in proper order for underwriting.
Verify all required documentation (pre-underwrite) in the file.
Complete the required loan checklist.
Verify that an application is complete and accurate; identify any potential issues that may arise in underwriting.
Prepare a loan approval summary, Forms 1008 and 1003, and ensure the accuracy of all the information printed on the documents; communicate directly with the Loan Originator, customer, and Underwriter to obtain initial and any missing documentation required to qualify for the loan.

Verify that vendor orders are complete, invoices are received and in the applicant's E-file.
Manage pipeline by completing and submitting reports within allotted turn-around times.
Assist set-up of loans.
Document all communication related to the loan application in the conversation log.
Train and assist supervision of new LoanProcessors and other processing personnel.
Assist closing, secondary marketing, and loan servicing to obtain and clear outstanding suspense items from CrossCountry Mortgage investors.

Qualifications and Skills:

Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain current and accurate knowledge of all loan programs offered by Coastal1, as well as current and thorough knowledge of industry standards for loan documentation including secondary market, government regulatory agency, FNMA, VA, USDA Rural Housing, RI and MA Housing Agencies.
Verify and input all closing data accurately into the LOS system and the closing documentation system for all loan types, including conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and construction-perm loans.
Prepare and send Closing Disclosures to all borrowers in compliance with CFPB and TRID guidelines and timeframes. Follow up with the borrower for acknowledgements. Retain all documentation showing disclosure and receipt in file.
Responsible for verifying adequate coverage for Flood and Hazard Insurance.
Ensure all closing and processing conditions are cleared, complete verbal VOE, and complete soft-pull credit prior to approving disbursement of mortgage funds.
Responsible for completing funding sheets and loan set-up sheets. Enter on FISERV loan system.
Coordinate all aspects of the closing process and ensure compliance with appropriate regulations.
Assist in clearing noted pre- and post-closing file conditions and/or exceptions.
Respond to all inquiries and requests by internal/external customers. Provide guidance to less experienced closers.
Review mortgage file to ensure that all applicable disclosures have been signed, initialed, and dated by borrower(s). Disclosures not properly executed will be sent to mortgage closing for execution.
Review underwriting approval sheet to ensure approval is within established limits and conforms to Coastal1's guidelines. Contact members, realtors, attorneys, etc., to request missing or erroneous information.
Review title work provided for defects. Ensure legal description matches subject property, and all other identifying information corresponds to other documentation in the file.
Verify legal description on appraisal and title binder. Ensure final 1033 (Uniform Residential Applications) contain all verified information based on RMCR, VOE's, VOD's, appraisal, title binder and member supplied information.
Prepare and review all closing documentation, ensuring compliance. Schedule mortgage closings. Coordinate time and date with all parties (i.e., buyer, seller, closing agent, realtor, etc.).
Calculate closing figures and coordinate loan funding with accounting department. Effectively communicate and coordinate with Closing, Funding and Secondary departments. Oversee the transfer of the loan file to Loan Servicing.
Ensure compliance with Coastal1's Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Policy and related procedures, Member Identification Program, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control screening and record keeping requirements.
Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required. Associated degree preferred.
At least 2 years demonstrated successful lending function or closely related field experience required; Familiarity with EllieMae/Encompass Loan Origination System preferred.
Must register/be registered by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.
PC Proficiency to include Microsoft Office and other banking software.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must understand basic math concepts.

Cross-trains and performs all positions within the Loan Department.

Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain current and accurate knowledge of all loan programs offered by Coastal1, as well as current and thorough knowledge of industry standards for loan documentation including secondary market, government regulatory agency, FNMA, VA, USDA Rural Housing, RI and MA Housing Agencies.

Ensure all closing and processing conditions are cleared, complete verbal VOE, and complete soft-pull credit prior to approving disbursement of mortgage funds.
Responsible for completing funding sheets and loan set-up sheets. Enter on FISERV loan system.
Coordinate all aspects of the closing process and ensure compliance with appropriate regulations.
Assist in clearing noted pre- and post-closing file conditions and/or exceptions.
Respond to all inquiries and requests by internal/external customers. Provide guidance to less experienced closers.
Review mortgage file to ensure that all applicable disclosures have been signed, initialed, and dated by borrower(s). Disclosures not properly executed will be sent to mortgage closing for execution.
Review underwriting approval sheet to ensure approval is within established limits and conforms to Coastal1's guidelines. Contact members, realtors, attorneys, etc., to request missing or erroneous information.
Review title work provided for defects. Ensure legal description matches subject property, and all other identifying information corresponds to other documentation in the file.
Verify legal description on appraisal and title binder. Ensure final 1033 (Uniform Residential Applications) contain all verified information based on RMCR, VOE's, VOD's, appraisal, title binder and member supplied information.
Prepare and review all closing documentation, ensuring compliance. Schedule mortgage closings. Coordinate time and date with all parties (i.e., buyer, seller, closing agent, realtor, etc.).
Calculate closing figures and coordinate loan funding with accounting department. Effectively communicate and coordinate with Closing, Funding and Secondary departments. Oversee the transfer of the loan file to Loan Servicing.
Ensure compliance with Coastal1's Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Policy and related procedures, Member Identification Program, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control screening and record keeping requirements.
Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required. Associated degree preferred.
At least 2 years demonstrated successful lending function or closely related field experience required; Familiarity with EllieMae/Encompass Loan Origination System preferred.
Must register/be registered by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.
PC Proficiency to include Microsoft Office and other banking software.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must understand basic math concepts.

Prepares monthly credit committee reports package such as monthly list of new loans, credit quality, portfolio breakdown, etc.
Reviews daily reports and daily general ledgers for any discrepancies in loan reporting or loan booking transactions.
Reviews loan denials and withdrawals for completeness and accuracy to report in the monthly credit committee package.
Retains a working knowledge of all credit union services and support tools relative to the lending area.
