Job Description: Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has an opening for an Environmental Field Technician to join the Technical and Environmental Services Group (TES) at the State Highway Administration Office of Materials Technology. Responsibilities include data collection and monitoring, while providing technical support for various SHA projects. Activities will be comprised mostly of fieldwork, with the potential for some office and desk activities under the direction of a manager or crew chief. Projects will be alongside SHA Right-Of-Ways or within SHA roadways and will focus on driving for the purposes of data collection, sampling, monitoring, and similar transportation data collection efforts. This position requires the ability to coordinate with multiple other peers and technical personnel. This is primarily field based work, which may require the ability to work non-standard hours, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather conditions. Overnight travel may be required. The preferred candidate will have experience operating field vehicles and equipment, perform field analysis and sampling, record keeping duties for documentation and report preparation, which may include data entry, performing minor equipment maintenance and repair, completion of daily logs and tracking sheets. The preferred candidate will also have strong communication skills and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks. Must have a valid license with less than 5 points. This position will be open until filled. This position is eligible for on-spot, contingent offers.
