Job Description The design lead oversees the Design Team in successfully planning, executing, and delivering primarily large-scale projects. Responsibilities include: • Act as the primary design engineer of record and project lead for projects congruent with experience. • Provide regularly scheduled project reviews to review design progress, schedule, outstanding issues, etc. to provide guidance and support to design staff. • Sign and seal plan sets as appropriate for level of involvement in the project. • Create or direct schematic design layouts and establish initial design direction. • Plan out project tasks, priorities, timelines, and delegate tasks to project engineers and designers. • Perform QA/QC of delegated tasks. • Provide technical support and develop expertise of project engineers as necessary. • Communicate and coordinate with and between clients and design teams. • Provide design team assistance with complex RFIs and CA issues. • Provide guidance and/or generate Program of Requirements and Master Plans. • Help develop additional augmentation procedures and integration. • Generate proposals as necessary. • Meet deadlines. • Mentor staff on engineering design and project delivery. • Other duties as assigned and necessary. The Design Engineer designs, analyzes, and documents new or existing products from the requirements provided. Creates and sustains specifications using engineering analysis and judgment. Oversees the development and testing of engineering prototypes. Communicates and coordinates with vendors to obtain information and assistance. Position Responsibilities may include; Create, revise, and sustain HVAC product designs, utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles. Develop and manage project schedules related to new and existing product designs. Analyze product designs using tolerance, thermodynamic, finite element, and computational fluid dynamic analyses. Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests. Assist in redesigning internal components to improve overall long term system quality, improve efficiency & reduce cost. Develop engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques. Participate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements. Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.
