Kodiak is seeking a resourceful individual with broad knowledge and understanding of HVAC and related systems to join our team as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will be responsible for performing a wide range of HVAC activities for commercial and industrial customers. We are looking for someone who can contribute, grow, think, and create.
This is not a remote position. Candidates must live within a reasonable commute distance to our office in Tacoma, WA (or plan to relocate prior to hire date).
SALARY RANGE: $150,000 to $165,000 per year
JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
Work with Sales and Project Managers to provide timely field-related design solutions for our customers
Analyze customer specifications and performance requirements to determine mechanical designs
Assist with budgets, pre-contract designs and presentations
Active participant in all aspects of system design process: research, design, load calculations for system sizing, layout, sizing of components, equipment selection
Manage projects with both internal and external deadlines and changing time constraints
Design all details for construction required elements for installation
Assure all code requirements are met providing necessary information for permit application
Produce O&M's, Commissioning and other documents required for project communication and completion
Perform site surveys as required to verify details necessary for complete and accurate design
Monitor design standards and implement/practice quality control
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Three years related experience in HVAC or construction industry
Related experience in plumbing design preferred, but not required
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, CAD, Revit a plus
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity with HVAC principles and technical applications
Ability to comprehend and implement applicable HVAC related federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations
Read, analyze, and interpret information including blueprints, drawings, and equipment specifications

The Natrium Core Mechanical team develops analysis methods and software for conducting mechanical analysis of the reactor core using finite element methods. The Core Mechanical Methods Intern will perform mechanical analysis of the Natrium reactor core to optimize core assembly lifetimes and improve core economics. Under the supervision of a mentor, the intern will use TerraPower's in-house developed core mechanical analysis software to run finite element simulations of core assembly shuffling patterns and predict core assembly inelastic deformations over multiple cycles of operation. We're looking for an outstanding Mechanical Designer who combines superb 3D CAD capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right work done quickly and effectively. This person must have experience working in a multidisciplinary environment and producing top notch CAD designs. This person must also be comfortable working with large databases and complex constraints.
Key job responsibilities
- Creation, iteration and management of CAD designs for large system databases
- Manage the creation, checking, issuing and revisions of drawings for parts / assemblies
- Manage CAD BOM through product lifecycle management system
- Work with a team of engineers across multiple disciplines (mechanical, thermal, electrical, structural, manufacturing, metrology, tooling, assembly, test) in the ideation and creation of system concepts
- Engage with suppliers and vendors as needed for CAD definition of sourced components/systems
- Work with procurement and sourcing in identification and review of manufacturing sources
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, related field OR equivalent experience
- 3+ years CAD experience in complex mechanical / electro-mechanical assemblies/ machines/ structures/ systems
- 1+ years creating, manipulating, iterating and optimizing of mechanical designs with complex interactions / constraints
- 1+ years interfacing with a range of engineering disciplines, and understanding the scope of those inputs and requirements
- Expert level capability w/ 3D CAD systems - Siemens NX (4+ years in advanced CAD assemblies)
- Manufacturing and test knowledge (Forming, Machining, Finishing, Tooling, Assembly, Testing)
- Awareness of adhesives, finishes, material properties and selection criteria that influence selection for harsh environments
- Experience in optimizing design features to optimize for part cost (material handling, manufacturing, finishing, measurement)
- Hands-on experience with manufacturers/machinists/ part producers
- Experience in developing fabrication drawings for a range of manufacturing methods (rapid prototyping, machining, forming, composite manufacturing)
- Experienced in the CAD database management, CAD Bill of Materials management, and Product Life Cycle Management (PLM)
- Experience with change control and management through ERP/MRP systems to manufacturing/assembly personnel
- Hands-on support in prototyping assembly and test
- Excellent CAD database organization and management skills
- Organized, with demonstrable ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
- Motivated, highly dependable team player
- Possess excellent communication skills, with attention to details
