The Role
As a Senior Mechanical / Structures Engineer, you will be a core contributor to the design and realization of Float's airship platform. This is a deeply hands-on role focused on structural design, materials, and manufacturability at scale, working closely with the Lead Aerospace Engineer and founding team.
You will take ownership of critical structural subsystems and be responsible for designing them not only to perform, but to be repeatable, buildable, and scalable. You will see designs through the full lifecycle - from early analysis and trade studies to physical prototyping, testing, and iteration.
Responsibilities
Design and develop structural and mechanical subsystems for a large-scale cargo airship with an emphasis on scalable production
Create CAD and structural designs that balance performance, weight, cost, and manufacturability
Contribute to load case development, weight optimization, and structural trade studies to support both prototype and production configurations
Drive design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) decisions with the goal of supporting hundreds of units per year
Build and evaluate physical prototypes and proof-of-concept scale models
Participate directly in fabrication, assembly, and testing of structural hardware
Assist in developing and executing structural test plans, instrumentation, and validation procedures
Work closely with aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs transition cleanly from prototype to production intent

**The Opportunity**
+ Prepare drawings detailing the systems designed. System design calculations
+ System load calculations to establish equipment size
+ Report writing, writing summaries of the calculation methodologies employed
+ Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them.
+ Collaborate and coordinate with engineers of other disciplines, companies, and external consultants.
+ Incorporate sustainable design methods in building
+ Select equipment for use in building systems.
+ Construction administration - site visits, submittal reviews
+ Assisting and performing calculations for design specific piping systems for a variety of projects
**Is this role right for you?**
+ Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Sanitary, Environmental or Architectural Engineering
+ Coursework in fluid hydraulics/piping/fluid dynamics
+ Proven interest in the built environment
+ Ability to interface with clients

+ Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way

**Los Angeles Hiring Range** - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Los Angeles, CA is $24/hour to $43/hour. **This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level.** Benefits are not included in the base salary. Our Interns report to the Project Manager or Assistant PM, Pre-construction, or Estimating Managers and perform duties to assist in learning the process of managing the construction of the project. Interns work in conjunction with other Field Staff to ensure mutual project and personal development goals are being met. Duties may include the following, depending on education and skill level, as well as the status/timing of the project.
Please note that this position takes place in multiple regions, San Diego, Riverside, Orange County and Imperial.
Key Responsibilities
Assist team with General Contract and Subcontract administration
Learn about Quality Control programs and how to coordinate actions to address problems
Control of documents including but not limited to RFI postings and contract documents
Distribute information required for construction to appropriate parties
Work with the projects PE(s), SPE(s), and APM(s) to compile contract close-out documents (O&M manuals, As-Builts, etc.)
Assist in preparation of a contract items list
Research and suggest options on construction means, methods, and equipment
Perform other duties as required or assigned
Qualifications
Current student (preferably sophomore or higher) working towards a Bachelor's degree, in Construction Management, MechanicalEngineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related field.
A strong desire to learn and develop new skills
Strong sense of Teamwork
Success managing multiple, competing priorities in a deadline driven environment
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Resourceful with strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaborate on a team
