Job Summary
As a member of the Engineering staff, the Mechanical Design Engineer will design, test and develop, and maintain products, options, and accessories following company and industry standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Design and specify product component parts, subassemblies, and complete assemblies (New Product Development).
Assist R&D personnel with set-up and laboratory testing to validate product performance.
Analyze and interpret test data and make product revisions as necessary to comply with performance and safety requirements.
Read, create, and maintain engineering documents such as exploded part assemblies, basic wiring and electrical schematics, and fabrication/machined detail drawings.
Use the ECN (Engineering Change Notice) process to effectively and efficiently manage change aimed toward product improvement.
Formulate product design specifications and update as required.
Support assembly line by analyzing and solving problems or obstacles that occur during production.
Help train production line and service departments for new builds and product improvements.
Productively function in a fast-paced Engineering department that works intimately with manufacturing plant, sales personnel, and Service/Training team.
Occasionally travel to assist with new applications, diagnostics, or trade shows.
Assist with maintaining applications/equipment and how they integrate with evolving model year truck manufacturer changes.
Other duties as assigned.
Up to 50% travel to customer sites expected throughout North America
Job Qualifications and Skills
Mechanical Engineering, Technologist or related degree preferred, but will consider relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
Minimum 3 years experience in design, troubleshooting, and analysis of pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic controls and systems.
Experience with rotary screw compressors.
Good aptitude with hydraulic and mechanical driven equipment.
Experience with automotive power train - work trucks, large equipment, and PTO proficiency is a plus.
2D / 3D CAD drawing environment experience (AutoCAD and Inventor preferred).
Must be able to juggle priorities effectively.
Must have a positive attitude and function well with group-oriented tasks.
Experience with a document control system such as a Vault is a plus.

The Engineering Intern will work with the Engineering team on a variety of specific projects and areas as noted below. This position will report directly to the Engineering Director but will have exposure to the wider business teams. Interns will complete a capstone type project over the summer culminating in a presentation to business leadership.

Required Education and Experience:
Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Rising junior or senior

Excellent organizational skills
Interest in technology and process improvement
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
No previous experience required
Certain peak periods may provide opportunity for overtime. This is a paid position. The internship will run for 12 weeks from May to August. Exact dates flexible based on school schedules.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
BWP's Automation Engineering department is seeking a summer engineering intern. The internship is a learning opportunity with mentorship and hands-on experience. It is also a great opportunity to develop soft skills in teamwork, communication and problem solving. The intern will be introduced to a variety of job roles that are handled by an Automation Engineer. These roles include project development and management activities in accordance with BWP standards, policies, and procedures to meet customer needs. Automation Engineering roles also include all phases of electrical and control systems project design including project estimates, scope of works, budget forecasting, procurement, construction scheduling and inspecting installation, PLC and HMI programming, and commissioning and startup duties. Automation Engineering also provides advanced support to Automation Services, Engineering & Construction, SCADA, IT and Field Operations personnel which may include problem solving, technical support, troubleshooting, training, modification and optimization of existing station/unit control systems and electrical/automation equipment and design drawing reviews.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:
Interest in PLC logic and programming
Interest in HMI configuration and programming
Interest in control systems, electrical power systems and engineering economics
Majoring in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

Job Overview:
This internship provides the opportunity to participate in the full life cycle of pipeline projects from scoping to closeout. Activities can include but are not limited to scoping, engineering design, estimating, scheduling, project team coordination, bidding and bid analysis and construction management. Interns will have the opportunity to see real projects go from the design phase to observing construction in the field.
Interns will typically support and shadow experienced Project Managers and Construction Specialists as they complete their day-to-day tasks. They may participate in additional activities or events, allowing them to build a strong network within the Southern Star community and with fellow interns.
Highlights:
This is a 12-week, competitively paid summer internship starting in May and ending in August.
Interns work 40 hours per week with paid company holidays.
A taxable housing stipend may be provided to obtain housing near the Southern Star work location if the successful candidate's permanent home address and current college address is determined by Southern Star to be greater than reasonable driving distance from the assigned work location.
Participants are eligible for full-time employment upon successful completion of the Southern Star internship program.
Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Project Management
Assist Project Managers as they lead and oversee all aspects of major capital projects.
This will include but is not limited to Land, Regulatory, Environmental, Engineering/Design, Contracts, Construction and Project Closeout.
Travel up to 25% on average.
Construction Management
Assist Construction Specialists as they directly oversee and document all aspects of
construction and manage multiple construction inspection crews on major capital projects.
The Construction Specialist provides input during the scoping, estimating, designing, bidding and awarding phases of projects. The Construction Specialist ensures compliance with API, ASME, FERC, OSHA, PHMSA, SSCGP, etc. regulations, standards, policies, and procedures applicable to the industry.
Travel up 25-50% on average.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
You must be at least 18 years old by the start of the summer internship assignment.
You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 after each completed semester/term.
You must be authorized to work in the United States.
You must be entering your junior or senior year of your degree program.
You must be currently pursuing a Bachelors' degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or other related engineering discipline.
