ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
Design Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) auxiliaries and components, assemblies and systems to meet fit, form and functional requirements.
Interface with other technical disciplines such as Aerothermal, Structural, and Manufacturing Engineering to develop designs that meet all applicable criteria.
Analyze components to ensure parts maintain appropriate stress levels, meet life requirements and design criteria. Select materials, coatings, and weld fillers as needed for the applicable temperature and stress levels.
Review and understand OEM component material, design features, and cooling configurations to understand design intent. Compare various designs between different engines (based on manufacturer), different versions (based on design evolution over time), and different part numbers with the goal of identifying most effective solutions.
Assist Drafting, Configuration Management and Field Service groups with part numbers, assembly numbers, system level configurations, and other configuration related activities for both PSM and OEM hardware.
Provide technical information and system level configurations for PSM's upgrade systems to commercial team and customers. Facilitate customized solutions based on specific customer engine configurations. Conduct reviews of relevant data such as components and performance of specific upgrades with internal and external teams.
Work across departments with Supply Chain, Field Service and Commercial Teams for technical support as requested. Support roles include technical responsibility for troubleshooting at vendors and customers sites as necessary.
Visit power plants and customer sites during outages in support of the Field Service group. Support initial installation of PSM hardware, review of engine run hardware for field durability issues and of documentation of various configurations.

Assess needs and identify critical path schedules for design, manufacturing and procurement activities.
Create, lead and/or deliver presentations to internal and external clients.

About the Role:
Position Overview The Systems Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for the design, analysis, and integration of mechanical and structural systems across complex maritime platforms. This role requires a systems-level mindset with strong mechanical engineering expertise, supporting projects that involve mechanical interface integration with electrical and communications systems. Key Responsibilities Requirements Analysis & System Design • Perform system-level requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation for mechanical and structural systems. • Translate customer and MIL-STD specifications into mechanical design criteria and system architecture. • Develop performance and environmental requirements (shock, vibration, noise, thermal, fluid flow). System Architecture Development • Develop and evaluate mechanical system architectures • Model mechanical system performance and ensure integration with electrical and control systems. • Optimize design for manufacturability, maintainability, and shipboard installation. Integration & Interface Management • Manage mechanical interfaces across systems - including mounting structures, thermal management, piping, and cable routing. • Develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs), installation drawings, and 3D models showing integrated mechanical layouts. • Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software teams to ensure cohesive system integration. Testing, Verification, & Validation • Develop test procedures and support system-level verification and validation for mechanical and environmental performance. • Participate in integration, commissioning, and acceptance testing onboard ships or at test facilities. • Conduct root-cause analyses and corrective actions for mechanical or thermal anomalies. Compliance & Risk Management • Ensure compliance with maritime and defense standards (MIL-STD-901D, MIL-STD-167, ABS, DNV, etc.). • Support configuration and risk management throughout the product lifecycle. • Conduct reliability, maintainability, and safety analyses (FMEA, fault tree analysis, hazard assessment). Documentation & Reporting • Prepare mechanical design documentation, test reports, analysis packages, and installation procedures. • Support design reviews, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and customer technical audits. Collaboration & Technical Leadership • Work cross-functionally with electrical, software, manufacturing, and field service teams to deliver integrated maritime solutions. • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers. • Interface with shipyards, customers, and government stakeholders during design, production, and installation phases. Qualifications Education: • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM field. Experience: • 3+ years of relevant experience in mechanical or systems engineering, preferably in maritime, defense, or shipbuilding industries. • Proficiency with CAD and modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or AutoCAD). • Experience with FEA and thermal/structural analysis tools • Knowledge of materials selection, corrosion control, and environmental design for marine applications. • Understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and vibration/shock requirements in shipboard environments. Other Requirements: • U.S. Citizenship required. • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret (or higher) security clearance. • Excellent technical communication, documentation, and teamwork skills. • Willingness to travel to shipyards, test sites, or customer facilities as needed

SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2026 intern for our Coconut Creek, FL office. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in both technical engineering and business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path.
As an intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around landfill construction, landfill permitting, storm water management, utility projects, soil and groundwater remediation, brownfield redevelopment, site development, and sustainability projects. You will typically work 40 hours per week, dependent upon office workload.

Ability to travel overnight for work outside of an office setting may be required.
