Huntsman is hiring for our 2026 Summer Engineering Internship Program in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering.
Our summer intern program is tailored to individuals who are currently enrolled full-time students at an accredited four-year college or university. The internship runs from May to August - dependent on the school calendar. The goal of the Huntsman Intern Program is to provide a structured program that will equip interns with the skills and experience to help prepare for a successful career. The internship program will allow interns to apply knowledge learned in school to a real-world manufacturing or R&D setting, and gain insight into the operation of a multinational chemical company.
As an Engineering Intern you will:
Assist in the development of Asset Life Plans, troubleshoot equipment failures, and identify corrective actions.
Identify process improvement opportunities related to these troubleshooting efforts.
Participate in the project scope and cost estimate development for projects assigned.
Work with engineers and construction coordinators on installation, testing, and commissioning of newly installed devices.
Assist with the troubleshooting of equipment in the field and provide technical support as needed.
Participate in both onsite and offsite technical training opportunities.
Be assigned small projects to lead from conception through completion.
Attend project team meetings and report project status updates.
Ensure compliance with all corporate procedures and guidelines. Ensure that annual required training is completed on-time.
Full time presence in the workplace is required. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
Collaborate with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives at all levels of the organization.
Assists other employees in accomplishments of Huntsman company goals. Follow instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Full time college student at the Sophomore, Junior, or Senior level by the end of Spring 2026.
Must be currently enrolled at an accredited university seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering or equivalent program.
Must have 3.0 or higher GPA.

Experience with ShipConstructor software is strongly preferred.

Day To Day:
Design the screw compressor system and system components, such as the inlet filter, oil separator, oil cooler, oil filter, after-cooler, air or gas piping system, oil piping system and related pneumatic and fluid dynamic controls etc. This design shall include the related heat balance analysis, fluid dynamic analysis, strength analysis and any other necessary analyses.
Complete the P&ID or flow schematic drawings for any compressor packages. The flow schematic drawing shall be supported by the necessary calculation and analysis. Work with suppliers to specify and select any required mechanical component.
Complete the detailed layouts for the compressor packages.
Perform the design work with designer(s) as necessary.
Review and check the drawings completed by designers and take the responsibility for the design.
Design the compressor canopies and compressor skids.
Understand the engineering economics and conduct the efficiency and cost and reliability analysis.
Apply the theory of screw compressors and their systems and develop the experience and knowledge to support the compressor applications and production.
Complete the Bill of Materials (BOM) for compressor systems.
Actively involve the product innovation team and communicate any necessary information from the end users for the purpose of the product innovation.
Complete any mechanical engineering related tasks assigned by his or her supervisor.
Perform follow- up tests in the R&D area.
Assist the Quality Department in the field quality resolution process.
Conduct some small design projects.

What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of small and large mechanical engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.
Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
On-site assistance during startup.
Accomplishing engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations and piping estimates.
Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.
Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.
Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use by drafters/designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.
Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems. It is your responsibility to furnish sufficient sketches and details necessary for completion of engineering drawings.
Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.
Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for mechanical input.
Producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.
Checking calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and conformance to good engineering practice.
Advising the senior engineering concerning design or scope changes, which have been identified.
Assisting other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings and specifications into a “package”, enabling mechanical purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of equipment, materials or subcontract pricing.
Developing construction specifications.
Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
Performing fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel in the department.
Applying advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.
Developing small work sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.

Day To Day:
Design the screw compressor system and system components, such as the inlet filter, oil separator, oil cooler, oil filter, after-cooler, air or gas piping system, oil piping system and related pneumatic and fluid dynamic controls etc. This design shall include the related heat balance analysis, fluid dynamic analysis, strength analysis and any other necessary analyses.
Complete the P&ID or flow schematic drawings for any compressor packages. The flow schematic drawing shall be supported by the necessary calculation and analysis. Work with suppliers to specify and select any required mechanical component.
Complete the detailed layouts for the compressor packages.
Perform the design work with designer(s) as necessary.
Review and check the drawings completed by designers and take the responsibility for the design.
Design the compressor canopies and compressor skids.
Understand the engineering economics and conduct the efficiency and cost and reliability analysis.
Apply the theory of screw compressors and their systems and develop the experience and knowledge to support the compressor applications and production.
Complete the Bill of Materials (BOM) for compressor systems.
Actively involve the product innovation team and communicate any necessary information from the end users for the purpose of the product innovation.
Complete any mechanical engineering related tasks assigned by his or her supervisor.
Perform follow- up tests in the R&D area.
Assist the Quality Department in the field quality resolution process.
Conduct some small design projects.
