What You'll Do:
Perform routine tests in a medical laboratory to provide data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease by performing the following duties.
Interprets Provider orders and secures a requisition before performing test
Obtains the correct amount and type of specimen
Draws blood from patient's vein, fingertip, or heel, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples
Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood and urine under the supervision of a medical technologist
Performs blood counts
Performs microscopic analysis of urine and genital specimens
Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens
Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner
Informs Provider of lab results
Documents all requests and results of lab work accurately
Recognizes abnormalities and notifies physician immediately
Performs daily quality control and cleaning procedures per guidelines
What You Need For This Job:
High School Diploma or general education degree
ASCP Certified (associates degree) or Medical Lab Scientist (bachelor's degree). Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
First- Aid, CPR certified
Must reside in or near Wasilla, Alaska.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of EMR software, database software and LabDaq.
Ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, or feel and talk and hear. Ability to occasionally sit, reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch, or crawl.
Must be able to lift and/or move 50 lbs.

The Technician's duties include operating and maintaining high-precision equipment, ensuring test accuracy through quality control, data record keeping, interpreting results, and communicating findings to providers and healthcare teams. The Medical Laboratory Technician maintains proficient phlebotomy skills across the life span, able to work independently and employ critical thinking skills demonstrated by competent troubleshooting abilities. The Technician is required to stay updated on advancements in laboratory techniques to improve patient outcomes. The Medial Laboratory Technician is required to work three (3) scheduled days per month and be available for additional short notice call in.
Essential Functions
* Performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic assessment on all un'ina testing to ensure sample suitability and integrity, evaluate accuracy and precision of test results
* Demonstrates competency for all test procedures performed at Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) Laboratory through adherence to established policies and procedures for all laboratory testing processes
* Reviews quality control data to identify analytic discrepancies, troubleshoot and document remedial action taken when test systems deviate from established performance guidelines, resolve inconsistencies to ensure un'ina results are within allowable ranges before release from laboratory information system (LIS)
* Reports test results, identify results that are abnormal and communicate values to un'ina's provider following established laboratory documentation protocol, submit reportable infectious disease information to the State of Alaska public health department or other designated officials
* Maintains laboratory equipment and analyzers to ensure quality control measures meet CLIA regulations
* Performs assigned proficiency, competency, and continuing education within established timelines
* Trains new employees, Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) staff, and laboratory science students, and provide remedial training as needed
* Collaborates with Laboratory Director in preparation for laboratory inspection from regulatory agencies, such as clinical staff competency assessments and writing laboratory protocols
* Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Responsibilities

Oversees occurrence reports, investigation of concerns (from physicians, patients and other customers) and follow up, problem resolution, record keeping and reporting.
Makes recommendations for technical changes and improvements in their section with the section's Medical Director. Participates with vendors and technical representatives to maintain equipment services and other contracts for best product pricing, quality and future testing needs.
Performs all functions of a Med Lab Scientist, or a Histology Tech, as applicable and as needed.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a lead, supervisory, or equivalent capacity.
Minimum of 2 years experience in high complexity testing within the subspecialty area (Microbiology, Histology, or Blood Bank).
MLS/ASCP certification or equivalent such as ASCP, AMT, HEW, or AAB. If no current U.S. certification, it must be obtained within one year. Individuals with specialty certification may only work in the discipline of their specialty.
Must communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. Must possess leadership ability.

Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician, under general supervision of the Laboratory Director, performs and analyzes complex laboratory tests on un'ina samples (blood, tissues, and fluids) to provide crucial data for disease diagnosis and treatment. The Technician's duties include operating and maintaining high-precision equipment, ensuring test accuracy through quality control, data record keeping, interpreting results, and communicating findings to providers and healthcare teams. The Medical Laboratory Technician maintains proficient phlebotomy skills across the life span, able to work independently and employ critical thinking skills demonstrated by competent troubleshooting abilities. The Technician is required to stay updated on advancements in laboratory techniques to improve patient outcomes. Essential Functions
Performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic assessment on all un'ina testing to ensure sample suitability and integrity, evaluate accuracy and precision of test results
Demonstrates competency for all test procedures performed at Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) Laboratory through adherence to established policies and procedures for all laboratory testing processes
Reviews quality control data to identify analytic discrepancies, troubleshoot and document remedial action taken when test systems deviate from established performance guidelines, resolve inconsistencies to ensure un'ina results are within allowable ranges before release from laboratory information system (LIS)
Reports test results, identify results that are abnormal and communicate values to un'ina's provider following established laboratory documentation protocol, submit reportable infectious disease information to the State of Alaska public health department or other designated officials
Maintains laboratory equipment and analyzers to ensure quality control measures meet CLIA regulations
Performs assigned proficiency, competency, and continuing education within established timelines
Trains new employees, Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) staff, and laboratory science students, and provide remedial training as needed
Collaborates with Laboratory Director in preparation for laboratory inspection from regulatory agencies, such as clinical staff competency assessments and writing laboratory protocols
Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Must possess a certificate or diploma from an approved/accredited program in one of the following: Radiologic Technology (RT) program, Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) program, Invasive Specialist program (RCIS)
National Certification American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) required.
This position requires the clinical knowledge typically obtained with at least one (1) year of Cardiac Cath Lab experience.
BLS and ALS required.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred certification.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
