LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is currently seeking a skilled highly motivated individual for a Medical Laboratory Scientist position in our Special Testing Laboratory in Gainesville, FL. This lab covers diverse testing methodologies in the areas of flow cytometry, molecular biology, hematology, serology, cellular therapies, histocompatibility (HLA), chemistry, and coagulation. This position is responsible for performing and interpreting high complexity clinical laboratory tests that require the exercise of independent judgment. Qualifications
- National certification such as MLS (ASCP), MLS (AMT), or MT (AAB)
- Current FloridaMedical Technologist license
- Familiarity with blood banking
- Valid driver's license. Must also meet and maintain LifeSouth driver's eligibility requirements
- Molecular experience preferred
- Flow Cytometry experience preferred

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Perform only those tests authorized by the Technical Director
- Follow the clinical laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results
- Participate in and maintain records that demonstrate proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
- Adhere to the clinical laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities and ensure instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance is performed in accordance with the laboratory's approved policies and procedures
- Follow established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the defined acceptable levels of performance
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify a supervisor, manager or director
- Document all corrective action taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
- Exercise professional judgment in evaluation, specimen integrity, results accuracy and inter-result validity and take corrective action as necessary. Such corrective action can include, but is not limited to: specimen rejection, recollection and/or retesting using the same or alternate methods and/or utilizing other skills to ensure validity and accuracy of testing at all times
- Perform specialized lab testing for cellular therapies and lab testing for the quality control of cellular therapy products and blood components
- Perform specialized lab testing for RBC and HPA genotyping including Next Generation Sequencing.
- Perform Platelet Refractory Workups including HLA typing, and HLA/HPA antibody identification. Perform DNA extractions.

The Opportunity
Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process.
You will report to the Assistant Center Manager.
The Role
In compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assists qualified donors in completing the screening process. The screening procedures includes but are not limited to: assessing the self-administered health history, answering basic medical questions associated with the donation process, referring donors to medical staff when appropriate and performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, temperature. Performs finger stick to obtain sample to obtain donor's hematocrit and total protein levels.
Upon completion of the appropriate training, may educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma. This includes explaining the screening process, the health screening tests performed, the appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and any other information pertinent to the donor. Ensure that all donor questions are answered timely, accurately and professionally.
May be involved in registering applicant and transfer donors based upon completion of appropriate training and operational needs of the center.
May answer the telephone and answer callers question or transfer call to appropriate staff member.
Maintain alertness and awareness to any reaction by a donor may have during or after the pheresis process and notifies appropriate staff.
Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
Ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
Understand the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
9 Maintains clean efficient work environment and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promote safety in all actions.
Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.
May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.

Job Summary:

Duties and Responsibilities:
Obtains and processes blood and/or other specimens from geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Makes determinations as to acceptability of samples and completes appropriate specimen rejection forms when necessary.
Performs clerical duties such as filing, billing, charge reconciliation, and report distribution. Answers phones and aids hospital staff, clients, and all patients. Maintains accuracy of all reports, records, and maintains test results. Completes test request forms and enters all charge information int the hospital and reference laboratory information systems. Maintains accurate records of all specimens received or sent out of the laboratory.
Performs as a medical technologist in areas of licensure by testing acceptable specimens to provide accurate and timely results. Understands all instrument functions, calibrations, and quality control needs, as well as troubleshooting. Identifies and confirms abnormal test results. Able to solve problems, work independently, and prioritize/organize workflow.
Assists in developing, maintaining, and modifying procedures and applications.
Practices universal precautions and makes proper use of personal protective equipment, while maintaining a clean work area.

Seeking a hospital based Medical Technologist to provide expertise and champion results. We are an amazing team that works hard to support each other and are seeking a phenomenal addition like you who feels the patient experience is as meaningful as we do.
You Will:
* Perform accurate and timely laboratory testing by analyzing proficiency testing samples according to instructions and complete within the allowable time frame
* Assume responsibility of the department as appropriate in the absence of the supervisor
* Complete all required records/documentation pertaining to patient results
* Perform stat procedures within established turnaround time targets
* Demonstrate the ability to use good judgment and independent thinking in the correlation and interpretation of patient results. (Including performing delta checks, etc.)
* Review pending logs (OSR) and result logs; resolve any outstanding workload or communicate to staff relief
* Perform quality control procedures per protocol and handle all problem and/or critical laboratory specimens/test results
You Should Have:
* A 2 Year/Associate Degree is required
* A 4 Year/Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology is preferred
* Less than 1 year of experience as a Medical Technologist
* A State of Florida Technologist License is required OR the ability to obtain a license during the interview process
* Technologist License in one or more clinical specialty areas: (Generalist highly preferred)
* Blood bank
* Serology
* Chemistry
* Hematology
* Microbiology

**Job Responsibilities:**
+ Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
+ Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
+ Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
+ Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
+ Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
+ Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
+ Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
+ Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
+ Assist with processing of specimens when needed
+ Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
**Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or a non-traditional Bachelor's degree that meets local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
+ FLMedical Technologist (MT) license required
+ Previous clinical laboratory testing experience is highly preferred
+ ASCP or AMT certification is preferred
+ Ability to work independently and within a team environment
+ Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
+ High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
+ Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
+ Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
Assists with the Sciences for Health Programs labs, which includes Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Chemistry
Prepares and deconstructs labs, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Ensures and adheres to cleanliness and safety following established regulations and guidelines.
Greets and assists students and staff participating in labs which includes answering and directing phone calls and assisting in-person visitors.
Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement
Perform other duties as assigned
Reports to: Academic Lab Manager, Sciences for Health Programs
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: The Educational Aide must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College student, in good academic and behavioral standing, taking six (6) or more credit hours. Must have successfully completed of one of the following courses: Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, or Chemistry.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred: Students with additional laboratory or health sciences coursework.
