Perform routine lab tests under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in those specialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience.
Pay range: $25.00 - $35.24 / hour

Required Work Experience:
Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 published in March 14, 1990.
Preferred Work Experience:
One (1) to three (3) years of clinical experience preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:

Perform and report on assigned analytical tests under the direction of senior personnel in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) ensuring that applicable quality control requirements are met.
May perform some moderate complexity testing with specific on-site training and oversight.
Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain a turnaround time of results including STATS or critical results to clients.
Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates and if applicable opened dates.
Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Make quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test.
Responsible for informing supervisory personnel of all problems associated with the proper performance of test procedures.
Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate fully with any investigation of same.
Review and enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized report to be generated for physician review and interpretation.
Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional and sanitary condition.
Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
Adheres to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements.
Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, (b) engineering controls and/or (c) work practice controls as directed by management.
Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.
Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.

The Lakes Medical Center Acute Care Laboratory comprised of approximately 30 team members, who staff the department 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. The team performs collections and testing in the areas of chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and transfusion medicine for patients of all ages.
The Northland laboratory delivers testing for chemistry, hematology, coagulation, blood bank, limited microbiology, and performs inpatient and outpatient collections.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. The MLS performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The MLS correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The MLS collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The MLS participates in laboratory performance improvement activities.

* Some levels of inspection may be required to identify the root cause of chemical processing issues.
* Support actions for implementing cost reduction projects with engineering and production employees.

Qualifications
Lab Technician/Biocompatibility Technician Position Requirements
* Experience as a chemical operator or equivalent experience.
* Ability to understand basic acid-base chemistry.
* Ability to create professional reports and validations according to ISO, GMP and ASTM standards.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.
* Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbal instructions of technical operations and procedures to non-technical operators.
* Ability to comply with all mandatory Environmental, Health and Safety standards.

Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting microbiological and analytical testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished frozen novelty products. This role supports the facility's Food Safety Plan by executing environmental monitoring, managing the retains program, and reporting on product quality metrics such as pH, Brix, and temperature.
Essential Food Safety and Quality Responsibilities.
Maintain organized records and storage of product retain samples for traceability, shelf-life evaluation, and quality investigations.
Collect representative samples throughout the production process (incoming ingredients, in-process materials, and final products) according to sampling protocols.
Execute the process of third-party laboratory testing, including preparing and submitting samples, tracking test progress and results, and coordinating follow-ups to ensure timely and accurate reporting
Perform routine microbiological tests (e.g., total plate count, coliforms, yeast & mold) on products, raw materials, water, and environmental swabs to ensure food safety compliance.
Analyze lab data, document findings accurately, and report deviations or test failures to the QA Leads & Supervisors and cross-functional teams in a timely manner
Test and record key quality attributes such as pH, Brix, viscosity, and weight to ensure products meet specifications.
Perform environmental swabbing of production areas as part of routine EMP, ensuring samples are taken correctly and logged consistently.
Assist in monitoring production batches by verifying lot codes, product labeling, and ensuring full traceability from raw materials to finished goods.
Ensure all laboratory instruments are properly calibrated, cleaned, and maintained according to schedule.
Participate in quality or food safety investigations by providing lab data and analysis, contributing to root cause identification and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) plans.
Collaborating with other departments to ensure quality standards are met throughout the entire production process.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience in a food or beverage laboratory or quality control lab preferred.
Basic knowledge of laboratory testing methods, microbiological procedures, and food safety principles.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise testing protocols and documentation requirements.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting lab results and identifying anomalies.
Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with QA, production, and R&D teams.
Able to manage multiple samples and tests efficiently in a fast-paced lab environment.
Familiarity with food safety standards and regulatory requirements such as FSMA, SQF, and GFSI preferred.
Additional Requirements
PCQI Certification is a plus (we will support certification if needed)
Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
