Description:
Primary function is to administer skilled nursing care to patients in their place of residence, as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with the established plan of care. The LPN/LVN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team as well as the patient/family. The LPN/LVN will deliver care in compliance with State, Federal and Medicare standards.

Summary Description

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or have qualified at the MedicalTechnologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination prior to 2/28/92 42 CFR 493.1491. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491).
Prefer 6 months to 1 year medical laboratory technologist, clinical laboratory scientist experience in acute care facility.
Required: Registered or registry eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire). Equivalency evaluation by ECE ,NACES or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire. Licensure, as required by State.

Summary
The medicaltechnologist performs testing on patient specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and reports the results. Responsibilities also include performing quality control procedures and instrumentation maintenance. The technologist assists the laboratory manager in maintaining an efficient and effective laboratory operation. The position requires exercise of independent judgment and discretion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs assigned technical assays according to established procedures and report tests after verifying the validity of patient results prior to reporting.
2. Prepares specimens for analysis and performs testing maintaining the highest level of quality and the most efficient use of resources.
3. Maintains all equipment according to maintenance schedule and records function checks. Takes remedial action when indicated.
4. Performs and records quality control and proficiency tests. Takes appropriate corrective action when QC fails.
5. Properly collect patient specimens including patient preparation, labeling, handling and transportation.
6. Maintain knowledge of current developments in the laboratory field by attending job related seminars or by reading appropriate journals and publications.
Communicates and interacts with peers and other departments in a manner that is viewed as having a positive effect on patient services and CHC staff morale. Interacts effectively with patients/family members and demonstrates sensitivity in regards to cultural diversity, age specific needs and confidentiality.
Function as a team member by expanding her responsibilities as directed by management to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.
This employee has access to medical records daily. The parts of the medical recorded needed to perform the job are as follows: Lab Information System, Entire Chart/Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Electronic Billing System.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor of Science degree and successful completion of medicaltechnologist internship. Must pass registry exam and have current certification. Must be ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) certified or equivalent.
Experience: Two years of related work experience preferred.
Other: Knowledge of various chemistry and hematology instrumentation required. Experience using laboratory information system(LIS) is required. Must be able to perform mathematical calculations. Must be able to distinguish all colors of the spectrum. Knowledge of microscope usage a must. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to prioritize and organize workload. Must be able to tolerate standing 90% of the workday. Must be able to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions. Good phlebotomy skills required. The Health Science Simulation and Lab (HSSL) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, developing, maintaining, and scheduling simulation and lab experiences across the Health Sciences Division. This role ensures effective integration of simulation-based and hands-on learning experiences across programs, collaborates with all applicable division stakeholders, and manages lab operations, technology, and staff. Job Description Medical Laboratory Technologist
Under general supervision, performs routine tests in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, ensuring validity and accuracy of test results.
Duties and Responsibilities
Receive, processes, and handles blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures.
2. Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of blood chemistry/hematology and urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, performs blood counts using microscope.
3. Performs quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy.
4. Performs calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy.
5. Keeps records and reports on results according to established procedures.
6. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
8. Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.
9. Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures; monitoring quality control measures and protocols.
10. Identifies and communicates abnormal patient results or issues by alerting supervisory personnel, the pathologist, the patient physician, or nurse.
11. Provides test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating blood chemistry/hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation equipment, performing manual methods of differentials.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in medical laboratory sciences, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific field
Certification/Licensure: MT (ASCP) certification is required
1 year of Clinical Blood experience in a hospital
or
Reference Lab setting within the Hematology/Chemistry Department is
required
Technical Skills
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
Records maintenance and Documentation skills.
Ability to perform a range of clinical laboratory tests and chemical analyses on biological samples.
Knowledge of laboratory and experimental protocols and procedures.
Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments.
Ability to isolate and identify specimens using advanced laboratory techniques and equipment.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
