Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) manages and maintains the safety of the individuals and staff. Takes vitals and assists individuals in meeting their needs while on the unit by providing exceptional customer service. Documents services provided and significant interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
* Conducts security screening and inventories property of individuals upon admission to the facility. Provides orientation to the Observation Unit and Short-term Inpatient Unit. Educates individuals on their rights under DBHDS and DMAS regulations, grievance process, provides expectations, and explains rules and regulations.
* Maintains safety of the unit.
* Intervenes with escalated individuals using therapeutic techniques for de-escalation and performs restraints or seclusions (if applicable) when needed to ensure the individual's safety and the safety of others. Completes 1-to-1 on an individual in seclusion or mechanical restraints for 15 minutes.
* Lifts, moves, and transports individuals using proper body mechanics or accident prevention.
* Assists individuals with activities of daily living to include eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
* Conducts and documents individual's vitals and reports all questionable results to the RN/Physician attending the individual. Conducts and documents all BAL, urine drug screens, and urine pregnancy tests.
* Attends court ordered hearings when subpoenaed and be a witness on a petition and provide testimony at court ordered hearings.
* Documents all services and significant individual interactions in the Electronic Health Record.
* Monitors and documents individuals every 15 minutes.
* Responsible for maintaining and ensuring the cleanliness of the facility and designated assigned unit. Performs light cleaning of interior center, collects soiled linen, and launders individuals clothing when needed.
* Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Duties Include:
Work Overnight shifts with every other weekend off. Rotating shifts.
Maintain safety, accountability and security of campus.
Teach, coach and supervise students in activities of daily living including morning, bedtime and overnight procedures, hygiene and cleanliness, housekeeping, meals, sports, academics, and extracurricular activities both on and off campus.
Observe the peer culture for patterns of behavior indicating progress or regression in the program.
Observe individual student behavior over time and recognize progress towards treatment goals.
Effectively communicate, both written and orally.
Follow and implement individual treatment plans for all students.
Recognize escalating behaviors and intervene at the appropriate level to ensure safety and security.
Transport students to court, home passes and appointments as necessary.
Job Requirements:
High School diploma or GED is required.
College degree in Human Services field and or one year previous work/volunteer experience with juveniles preferred but not required.

Brief Under Clinical Supervision of the Director of Counseling Services, the Marriage & Family Therapist - Counseling Intern (Intern) will provide individual, couple, group, and family counseling to ACU students, faculty, and staff. The Intern will facilitate support groups and/or workshops on a variety of emotional and behavioral health topics relevant to student development and wellness.
This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through the performance of its duties, including person-to-person mentorship and discipleship.
Typical Duties: (The following duties are those typically required to do the volunteer position but are not intended to include all duties that comprise the volunteer position content. Typical duties are intended to illustrate the diverse levels of difficulty of the volunteer position.)
Initiation and Continuation of Counseling Services
* Respond to emails from potential clients within 24 hours after being assigned by the Director of Counseling Services
* Schedule all of his/her counseling sessions
* Send a reminder email of all counseling appointments 24 hours in advance
* Monitor the Counseling Center email account to respond to current clients' emails within 48 hours
Clinical Documentation
* Maintain client files according to state law and Counseling Center procedures
* Perform an initial intake and assessment, including suicide risk
* Write progress notes for each session with 24 hours according to the format used by the Counseling Center
* Assess for common problems faced by students (e.g. Depression, Anxiety) using standardized assessments
* Work with the client to form a treatment plan by no later than the third (3rd) session, and monitor client's progress.
* Perform a treatment plan review every 6th session.
Clinical Supervision
* Participate in weekly individual and group supervision (Review of recordings of live sessions; case conceptualizations, case presentations)
Other Duties and Responsibilities
* It is the Intern's responsibility to fulfill the required direct and indirect client contact hours as required. The Director will work with the intern to meet these requirements
* Be available for meetings with Student Development Staff and Campus Safety as needed
* Copying forms

* Organizing handouts
* Provide spiritual guidance, prayer and support for others

We are looking for master s level counseling students who are passionate about helping families and children and want to be surrounded by expert clinicians dedicated to their profession. Our counseling program, AZ Family Counseling, provides quality counseling intended to strengthen family life on behalf of children and to provide assistance to hurting people, guiding them towards spiritual, emotional and behavioral healing. We provide Christ centered counseling through the demonstration and application of Biblical truth and Christian values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Counseling services to assigned clients of CFC.
Maintains files and records on each client counseled so that complete and accurate information is always available.
Assists in database management as required.
Alerts the Clinical Services Manager or designee of any serious concerns involving clients in the Counseling Program. This is particularly important where legal or safety issues may be involved.
Discuss and establish fees with clients in accordance with CFCA s guideline for fee structure and obtain the supervisor s approval for any fee request beneath guideline.
Discuss and collect insurance information from clients and provide information and necessary follow-up documentation and/or reports to ensure collection of insurance or other resource funding fees in a timely fashion.
Attends Clinical Meetings and group supervision with the Director of Clinical Services or designee on a bi-monthly basis or as scheduled.
Attends individual supervision with the Director of Clinical Services or designee as required. (Requirements are based upon level of experience, state licensure and professional requirements.)
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor s degree in psychology or other related field and enrollment in an accredited Master s level Counseling program. (we currently DO NOT have MSW supervision available)
At least one year of clinical experience together with experience with children and families is preferred. Knowledge of counseling ethical and legal issues as they apply to child and family counseling is required.
Knowledge of counseling practice and theory, specifically in areas of human development, group and individual theory, and systems family therapy is required.
This position must model strength of character, Christian values and a healthy relationship with God, themselves and others.
This position must also have a good understanding of counseling dynamics and methods to effectively counsel clients.
Ten (10) month commitment minimum
