Job Summary:
The Staff Radiation Therapist in the Radiation Oncology Department applies ionizing radiation to a diverse population of patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. They must be capable of operating radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safety measures and be able to perform a series of complex and precise technical procedures.

Participates in Quality Control monitoring.

The Mammography Procedural Techn II provides daily oversight of department, training/orientation, and general leadership. Essential Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Performs a variety of mammography procedures. Documents patient assessment and history. Provides patient education. Applies the professions code of ethics in all aspects of practice and is competent in all relative skills for a Mammographer. Complies with all governing regulations. Escalates all unusual (not typical) situations to the supervisor in a timely manner. Troubleshoots and manages equipment concerns to include engaging service vendor. QA/QC: Works closely with supervisor to govern department QA/QC review (MSDS, Equipment cleanliness, Viewing/Reading Station cleanliness, Daily room cleaning checklist, Eyewash checklist, Drug box inventory, Emergency box checklist, Electrical Safety, Physicist surveys).
Department Oversight: Partners with supervisor to manage clinical, quality, and professional department operations. Prepares department for daily workload by determining staff assignments & coordinating lunch schedules. Monitors appropriate usage and ordering of medical and office supplies. Manages member concerns on an ongoing basis and in the supervisors absence. Site Coordinator for student technologist. Monitors learning experience daily, fills out evaluations weekly, and completes competency forms as needed. Assists with the design and implementation of Diagnostic Imaging processes/procedures/policies. Assists supervisor with interviews, staffing, staff meetings, and special projects.
Preceptor of all new technologists, providing training on equipment and patient care services.
Perform at least 1 training in-service annually.
Prebiopsy Set Up: prepares equipment, supplies and patient for biopsy procedure.
PostOp: Assists in transport of patient to recovery, cleans exam room, restocks supplies.

The Radiation Therapist in the Radiation Oncology Department applies ionizing radiation to a diverse population of patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. They must be capable of operating radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safety measures and be able to perform a series of complex and precise technical procedures.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Participates in Quality Control Monitoring
a. Delivers consistent precise therapy to a designated treatment area.
b. Demonstrates skill in patient assessment, performing procedures and giving specialty care to patients, considering the age of the patient and appropriately adopts care for age (adolescent, adult and geriatrics).
c. Documents appropriately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
d. Demonstrates a willingness to perform additional tasks and gives assistance when necessary to others.
e. Recognizes own limitations and/or needs and seeks assistance as needed.
f. Reports adverse reactions to physician immediately and follows policy and procedure (P/P) for documentation.
g. Educates patient/family on expected side effects, use of blocks, wedges and other treatment aids.
h. Follows P/P to ensure precise treatment per physician prescription.
i. Follows P/P to ensure precise treatment per physicist's instruction in chart or computer.
Follows proper procedure to ensure safety to self and patient.
a. Assesses mobility of patients and manages accordingly, looks at EMR for fall precautions.
b. Wears radiation safety badges at all times.
c. Practices universal precautions.
d. Participates in daily warm-up procedures to ensure output is within tolerances
e. Advises manager of any discrepancies and any material item that needs replaced or fixed as soon as possible
Understands and completes correctly all patient set-ups
a. Simulates new patients and/or patients with new treatment fields with no errors and according to physician's written order in EMR.
b. Schedules patients appropriately and always lets patient know of any changes prior to changes being made.

Under general supervision, evaluates and implements the care of adult and geriatric patients undergoing mammography and breast related invasive procedures.
Assesses assigned patients needs by reviewing the radiology request, the patient's medical history, admitting diagnosis, and physician's orders.
Assesses the patient's physical needs, evaluates diagnostic data, and interviews the patient and family.
Prioritizes imaging needs for an assigned group of patients. Collaborates with other members of the health team to determine patient care priorities.
Assists in identifying complex patient problems related to symptoms, behavioral changes, and abnormal diagnostic data.
Evaluates patient's response of procedural care delivery. Practices radiation protection techniques.
Takes precautions to minimize patient and staff exposure to x-radiation. Notifies supervisor of safety issues as they occur.
Assures continuity and quality of care through effective decision-making and continuous patient assessment.
Anticipates potential patient crisis through continual evaluation of patient care. Assists with appropriate care interventions for identified patient problems.
Utilized standards of care and/or collaborative clinical pathways to guide the radiologic procedure. Involves the patient and or significant others in the radiologic process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and registered with the ARRT.
They must have a minimum of two (2) years experience with one (1) year in Mammography.
Advanced certification in Mammography is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
