We are seeking a motivated Mold Maker to join the team at our brand-new product development facility in Plymouth, MN. This role will provide an opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of mold building and will provide opportunities for future growth, training, and development.
The primary responsibilities of this role are to build injection molds and related tools/components which are manufactured and maintained to a high degree of quality. This is an intermediate level role and will work closely with and under direction of other senior Mold Makers. The Mold Maker ensures ProMed's brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed.
Schedule: Flexible day shift hours. Shift typically starts between 4:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. Get out early on Fridays!
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Fabricate precision injection molds from CAD models and drawings that meet dimensional specifications and quality standards, ensuring manufacturing processes achieve required tolerances
Collaborate with senior mold makers to gain further experience with all aspects of mold building, maintenance/repairs, and injection molding
Independently set up, program, and operate multiple types of CNC machining equipment including 3 and 5-axis mills, sinker EDM, and grinders with minimal supervision, producing precise medical injection molds that meet tight tolerances
Modifies or repairs existing molds, fixtures, etc. in accordance with engineering drawings, solid models, or verbal instructions.
Conduct comprehensive quality inspections of in-process and finished mold components to ensure conformance with engineering specifications and customer requirements
Maintain machining equipment with routine preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance and minimize production downtime
Contribute to individual and team continuous improvement activities
Observe and adhere to all safety expectations, procedures, and regulations
Ensure tool room is maintained in a clean and orderly manner daily

CNC Machinist - Weekend Shift (3/12's)

Our Machinists perform vertical mill machining at very close tolerances, adjust CAM programs using Gibbs CAM, machine set up and inspections of the parts they machine. Machining programs are created by our full-time programmer in Gibbs CAM but all machinists have the ability to edit their programs.
The majority of our parts are made from high performance plastic; however, machinists will also work with aluminum, 303 stainless steel and machinable ceramic. Short runs, no production work.

Qualifications

Turning Machinist Position Summary:
The CNC Turning Machinist plays a critical role in producing high-quality, intricate parts within a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires proficiency in setting up and operating CNC turning machine centers-specifically Doosan and DMG Mori with twin-spindle capabilities-alongside MDI (Manual Data Input) programming and precise manual inspection techniques. By leveraging strong problem-solving skills and close attention to detail, the Machinist will work with diverse materials (aluminum, plastic, and steel), troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement throughout the machining process.
By collaborating with cross-functional teams and maintaining clear communication across shifts, the CNC Turning Machinist ensures all parts meet Dahlquist Machine by Fathom's rigorous quality standards and on-time delivery commitments. This role demands the ability to make critical decisions under pressure, a commitment to safe work practices, and adherence to company EH&S policies. Through expert technical knowledge and dedication to efficiency, the CNC Turning Machinist contributes to Dahlquist Machine by Fathom's growth and aligns with Fathom's on-demand manufacturing vision.
Key Responsibilities:
* Set up and operate CNC turning machine centers (Doosan and DMG Mori) with twin-spindle capabilities, live tooling, and bar feeders
* Perform MDI (Manual Data Input) programming for efficient part production
* Conduct manual inspections using gauges and instruments to verify part quality prior to CMM inspection
* Interpret complex 2D drawings, applying GD&T principles
* Monitor parts throughout the machining process to ensure accuracy and consistency
* Adhere to company quality and safety procedures
* Communicate and collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and optimize performance
* Participate in Lean manufacturing events to drive process improvements
Qualifications/Requirements:
* Associate degree in a relevant field, or 3+ years of experience in milling, or 5+ years of overall CNC machining experience
* Familiarity with Doosan or DMG machines preferred
* Experience with various materials, such as aluminum, plastic, and steel
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints
* Proficiency in manual inspection using gauges and instruments in support of CMM inspection
* Strong work ethic and attention to detail
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
* Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information
* Good communication skills for effective teamwork
Hours: 5:45a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Monday - Thursday

SUMMARY: The Machinist is primarily responsible for the following:
Set up and operate machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments, and support maintenance of machines.
Inspect parts to ensure they meet the required tolerances, dimensions, and surface finishes that comply with the customers requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform machine setups to produce products, ensuring consistent results through accurate timekeeping, tool monitoring and statistical control methods.
Complete independent parts inspections to ensure that customer requirements are being met, using various inspection methods, resources and equipment, including regular use of microscope. ยท
Identify material, technical, production and safety issues that may impact the manufacturing schedule, communicate concerns to the department Lead
Knowledge of metals and their respective properties.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with the team and the department lead to accommodate production schedule changes.

EDUCATION: Associates degree or vocational training in machine tool technology, technical, or equivalent work experience.
EXPERIENCE: 5+ years' experience with CNC milling, Swiss turning, Fanuc, Mazak, or HAAS machines and CAM software (GibbsCAM preferred) in an ISO regulated manufacturing environment. Internships and PT experience acceptable.
