A registered nurse for almost three decades, she was a hospital executive before continuing her evolution to become a leader in healthcare IT. Today, Dr. Collins is Chief Nursing Officer at Vocera Communications, where she is on a mission to make technology conform to the real-world needs of the hospital-not the other way around. Her impact is wide-reaching and measurable, whether she is reducing a nurse-physician communication process from 30 minutes to an almost instant interaction, or speaking face-to-face with legislators to advocate for policy that puts patient safety and quality first.

Not surprisingly, she is a popular speaker and has presented at healthcare IT events that include HIMSS Middle East, HIMSS UK, and many others. In 2015, Dr. Collins spoke at HIMSS Middle East about building a strategic plan for communication technology; and in 2016 she was a speaker at HIMSS UK about the uptake of technology in the clinical environment. She spoke again at HIMSS UK in 2017. Dr. Collins is also a well-known thought leader in the health and health IT industries, with articles and guest columns regularly appearing in industry publications such as Nursing Management, Executive Insights, Advance Healthcare Network for Nurses, American Nurse Today, Health IT Outcomes, Becker’s Health IT & CEO Review, Health Management Technology, and Electronic Health Reporter. She is a long-time member of HIMSS as well as the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), the Texas Organization of Nurse Executives (TONE), and the Texas Nurses Association (TNA). In 2017, Dr. Collins was named one of Becker Hospital Review’s “Medtech Women to Know", and in 2018, was listed as a 'Female Health IT Leader to Know'.

Dr. Benjamin Kanter is the Chief Medical Information Officer of Extension Healthcare. Previously, he was CMIO of Palomar Health in San Diego. He graduated from the University of Michigan with Distinction and Honors after which he received his Medical degree and Internal Medicine training at Northwestern University. He completed post-doctoral studies in both Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at the U.C.S.D. Medical center in California where he remained on clinical faculty after graduation. Dr. Kanter is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Medical Informatics, and received special certification in Critical Care. He served as Chief of Staff for Pomerado Hospital and spent 7 years as a member of Palomar Health’s Executive Management Team. He provides consulting services for Sotera Wireless and AirStrip Technologies, and was a member of the Global Healthcare Advisory Board for Cisco as well as the advisory boards for Nuance, AirStrip Technologies, and Spyglass Consulting. In 2013 while at Palomar, Dr. Kanter and Extension Healthcare created a “reverse lookup” smartphone app that allows physicians to search for patients and immediately identify and contact their assigned nurse thus dramatically improving physician-nurse communication.
