Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities. Work is moderately active: involves standing with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Employee is responsible for safely moving, lifting and handling all supplies, equipment and patients, with assistance. Work is subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.

JOB TITLE: Surgical Technologist SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Physician and/or Registered Nurse Surgical technologists, also called scrubs and surgical or operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Prepares and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation for surgical procedures
* Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up the sterile field to include surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions
* Follows state and federal facility regulations when attending to patients
* Performs pre-procedure preparations to the patient's skin and body

* Assists with the maintenance of physician preference cards and inventory management
* Assists with the decontamination and cleaning, sterilization and performance of quality testing related to sterilization and high level disinfection

Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED required.
* Graduate of surgical technician program and documented experience.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) prerequisite
* 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
* Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
* Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
* Must be computer literate with basic fundamental computer skills that are required to perform essential job-related duties.

Essential Functions and Duties
Operates an emergency vehicle.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Helps prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
Assembles both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjusts and checks it to ensure it is working properly.
Prepares patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.
Transports patients to the operating room, helps position them on the operating table, and covers them with sterile surgical drapes. Checks patient charts. Assists the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery. May hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
