A Brief Overview
Provides high quality, individualized, family centered care to pediatric patients ranging from extreme prematurity through adolescence in the critical care transport environment. Care and transport of the critically ill patient is supported through the use of the EMT scope of practice in accordance with the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) standards and hospital policies and procedures. Essential Functions
Demonstrates responsiveness to the organizational functions of the transport process. • Demonstrates knowledge of ambulance operations • Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of transport equipment location, function and restocking procedures • Provides safe driving of the ambulance according to the Standards of the US Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and EMS National Standards • Safely operates ambulances on emergent and non-emergent transports • Utilizes lights and sirens as per Children's Policy adhering to standard safety practices • Maintains response times within targeted benchmarks set by the program • Works in conjunction with Fleet Coordinator to ensure ambulances are functioning and serviced as scheduled • Complies with ambulance, helicopter, and fixed wing operational safety in accordance with current guidelines • Checks, cleans, and stocks transport bags and equipment. Ensures equipment is in good working order • Maintains all transport equipment in a state of mission readiness by checking all equipment at the beginning of each shift, noting any discrepancies and ensuring steps toward resolution • Cleans vehicles and equipment and restocks bags after a transport • Completes daily, weekly, monthly and ongoing equipment checklists • Completes educational and professional development requirements
Assists with patient care within scope of practice including: • Obtaining vital signs and assisting with assessments and treatments as necessary • Placing patient on transport monitors • Moving and securing patient in transport cot/incubator • Initiates action to prevent current or potential risk to a patient in an emergency situation
Adheres to individualized patient/family plan of care to meet identified needs. (Plan of Care includes current and anticipated actions focused on stabilization, care, and transport needs). • Demonstrates age-specific competency within the EMT scope of practice • Assesses patient/family need for education and uses an individualized approach in delivery style • Communicates changes to medical crew

Assist in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures by setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies according to the surgeon's preference.
Ensure appropriate surgical packs, instruments, and equipment are pulled and placed in the OR or surgical cart prior to surgery.
Perform sterile patient site preparation, including sterile scrub, draping, and positioning under supervision.
Scrub in, perform sterile gowning and gloving, and maintain strict sterile technique throughout each procedure.
Anticipate the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, managing suction, and maintaining field sterility.
Demonstrate an understanding of instrument use and be able to identify and respond to compromised sterility or equipment issues.
Assist in the turnover and cleaning of the OR between cases to maintain efficiency and sterility.
Daily Operations & Collaboration
Participate in daily surgical rounds with Surgical Floor Leads and Sterile Processing Lead to confirm schedule, discuss equipment needs, and communicate changes or delays.
Collaborate with sterile processing to verify that all necessary surgical items are prepared and sterilized.
Support with preoperative and post-operative radiographs as directed.
Assist with pack preparation and instrument restocking when available.
Contribute to end-of-day closing responsibilities and maintain OR cleanliness.
Help train new team members in sterile technique and OR protocols.
Attend staff meetings and participate in morning and end-of-day rounds.
