    This position, reporting to the Shift Supervisor, is responsible for all production activities in the extrusion department. The position will focus on product quality, yields, equipment operation, and product delivery. The position is also responsible for assisting Engineering and Quality Assurance in all phases of customer trials, new product design, and testing. This role will also participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives as requested. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operate Machinery Set-up machine to specifications and best practices to meet product requirements Adjusts, calibrates, and tests equipment at the beginning of each shift to ensure proper pressure, speed, temperature, and general operation Make minor repairs to equipment when necessary Works with other operators to coordinate day-to-day production activities and equipment operation Works with other operators coordinating machine activity and order processing to ensure quality and on time delivery Properly utilize enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to ensure product characteristics are logged accurately Assists other operators troubleshooting machine and product problems; requests support from Engineering and Maintenance as needed Operate machines in a safe manner and reports any unsafe conditions Meets or exceeds production goals Identify Lean and Process improvement opportunities Ensure that the quality of the finished packaging meets the customer's specifications Ensure that all labeling is accurate and legible Ensure that quality documents are completed and legible at appropriate stages of production Resolve all nonconforming material and product immediately; follow procedure for identification and quarantine where necessary; and assist in disposition and root cause analysis Participate in a productive shift turnover Continually work towards training program completion Train other operators using the training program Utilize standard work for applicable job functions Ensure that machine and machine area is kept clean and organized at all times Coordinate preventive maintenance activity to ensure optimum machine performance Participate in Continuous Improvement activities Responsible for the setup and execution of trials and recording of results as needed Oversee training of new operators Interact with customers during meetings and trials in a manner that “Makes our customer happy” Perform any other function or responsibility as assigned Additional REQUIRED Qualifications/Skills : High School diploma or GED 1 to 3 years work experience in a manufacturing environment Experience in extrusion (to include Blown or Cast film), multi-layer lamination, complex die cutting, tension management, coating, or printing Knowledge of standard measurements Demonstrates the use of basic math to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of decimals, percentages, and fractions Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word Experience operating under a standard work driven quality management system Excellent written and oral communication skills Additional PREFERRED Qualifications/Skills : Self-starter Knowledge of standard OSHA safety rules and regulations in a manufacturing environment
