This position is also eligible for shift differential pay: $3.10/rotating evenings, $4.25/hour for rotating nights, and $4.25/hour for weekends. St. Croix Health is currently seeking a casual Polysomnographic Technologist to join our team! This position will work one shift every two weeks and fill in as needed. The Polysomnographic Technologist is responsible for performing comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis of the testing, and working under the general supervision of the Medical Director. The Technologist performs tests and procedures that test the brain waves and functions on sleep patients to perform studies and determine why they are having trouble sleeping through the night. They will review patient medical history and document their sleep issues, and keep records of patient progress. They will also explain to patients the nature of procedures that will be performed on them and prepare them for the procedures. During studies, equipment may be attached to their bodies and make sure the patient is comfortable before sleeping. This position is responsible for scoring all sleep studies once completed.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct sleep study procedures by following proper procedural protocols and accurately score the completed sleep study.
* Document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results
* Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifacts
* Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
* Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines
* Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) standards
* Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data
* Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
* Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download
* Perform patient education and instruction appropriate for home sleep apnea testing
* Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures
* Monitor patient safety and adhere to patient safety protocols
* Demonstrate adherence to AASM scoring parameters; identify artifact, inadequate signals and equipment failures and generate an accurate report
2. Follow procedure and protocols appropriately to ensure proper safety and patientcare, including "lights out" and "lights on" procedures.
* Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.)
* Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeat the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires, checking for completeness, etc.)
3. Prepare, maintain and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary
* Effectively validate the equipment runs properly and will run well for its expected lifetime
Education & Licensure:
* Completion of polysomnography program through an accredited program (Associate Degree) or completion of A-Step program.
* Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT) through American Academy of Sleep
Experience:
* 6-12 months experience as a Polysomnographic Tech preferred

* You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
* You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
* You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
* You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
* You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
