The Physical Therapist Assistants are expected to perform the following: Provide a full range of physical therapy assistant services, including the services as directed by the supervising physical therapist. Carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as directed by the head physical therapist. Under supervision, administer such treatment as exercise, gait training, massage, ice packs. Instruct patients on segments of the program including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, braces, and orthotic appliances and devices. Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities as well as a range of fitness activities as they relate to active-duty requirements. Observe patients during treatments and compile and evaluate data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and report orally or in writing to the physical therapist. Fit patients for, adjust, and train patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs. Confer with members of the physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs. Coordinate with other departments and the clinic staff to provide complete care to patients. Act as a liaison with nursing, medical staff, and other therapists to facilitate problem solving and coordination of services. Act as educational resource. Give orientation, direction and instruction to new physical therapy assistants. Perform clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, filling out forms, scheduling patients, and staffing the reception area. Maintain and care for department equipment and supplies and storage. Maintain department records and files in accordance with facility policies. Perform coding of patient encounters and workload. Measure patient's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist physical therapist to compile data for patient evaluations. Duties are performed in an outpatient military treatment facility. Job Description: The primary responsibility while working as a physical therapy technician is to assist in maintaining patient flow of the clinic. The tech will assist patients to the treatment area and provide modalities to patients (such as, heat packs, ice packs, electrical stimulation) under the direct supervision of a physical therapist. Candidates should possess a strong commitment to personal and professional growth, customer service, and ability to work as a team. They should have excellent organizational skills, while also having the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Responsibilities and Duties Prepare and maintain equipment and treatment rooms Maintaining patient flow in the clinic between patients, therapists and schedulers Cleaning patient care areas and sanitizing equipment Laundry duties & stocking supplies Opening and closing tasks Assisting patients with modalities (including heat packs, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound) under the direct supervision of a physical therapist Essential Qualifications: Regular and predictable attendance. Majority of the shift is spent standing and walking. Read a variety of printed and handwritten materials and take verbal instruction. Communicate with patients, therapists, and co-workers. No prior medical experience is required for this position. Hours: 15-40 hours per week. Clinic is open from Monday thru Friday 7am to 6pm (shifts start 30 minutes before open and end 30 minutes after close).
