    Iowa Orthopedic Center is actively seeking an Physical Therapist Assistant to provide efficient, quality-oriented physical therapy patient care through an individualized program, including assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, a home exercise program, education, and communication to maximize the patient's progress toward achieving functional goals under the direction of a Physical Therapist. Key Responsibilities: Conducts screening of patients at regular intervals to determine need for additional intervention/treatment and/or modifications under the direction of the Physical Therapist. Appropriately interprets data, collaborates with physical therapist to formulate goals and incorporate patient and family and other team members into the coordination of the treatment plan and throughout the course of treatment. Assist in providing physical therapy services to patients and in accordance with PT guidelines for professional practice and per clinic policy. Monitors patient's response to intervention and modify treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with treatment plan and physician orders. Adapts treatment to meet the individual needs of the patient as directed by the Physical Therapist. No major modification is made to the treatment plan without prior consultation with the Physical Therapist. Demonstrates behaviors which foster effective professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families and team member. Interprets and communicates findings to patients, families, and other team members. Participates in patient, family and staff education and provide in-service education to the members of the patient's care team as needed. Confer formally and informally with other team members in coordinating the total rehab program of the patient. Identifies equipment needs, utilize resources, issue equipment and instruct patients, families and appropriate team members regarding use and care of equipment. Follows management direction. Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the patient in their own environment in conjunction with the Physical Therapist. Provides clinical information in a timely manner concerning safety and functional needs as required. Documents results of patient's assessment, treatment, follow-up and termination of services. Records billable treatment times according to Clinic procedures. Accurately documents patient/family involvement in the medical record as per clinic policy. Completes daily/weekly progress notes and patient reassessments with changes noted in functional and physical status, goals and treatment plans. Accurately documents all patient/family treatments, interactions and outcomes. All documentation is completed timely. Ensures the implementation, compliance, and monitoring of the Infection Control Program following all policies, procedures and safety regulations. Provides /recommends/fabricates adaptive devices or other equipment. Trains patients, families and appropriate staff in the use or application of adaptive equipment and/or devices to ensure optimum safety and outcomes. Complies with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional. Demonstrates understanding of CMS and other regulatory requirements for the delivery of patient care Remains current with literature and education related to departments for which responsible and maintain an updated methodology, tools, manuals and criteria as necessary and appropriate. Clinician complies with company-wide MedBridge Continuing Education and Professional Development requirements. Manages clinical care in order to achieve the Quality Index Minimal Productivity Standards (QIMPS). Requirements Associates degree in physical therapy as evidenced by college diploma Current, active, and unencumbered license to practice in Iowa (open to candidates with pending licensures or those preparing for their board exam within six months). Ability to project a professional image. Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements. Responsibilities: * Implements treatment plans established by the supervising occupational therapist. * Informs the supervising occupational therapist of any significant change in patients'/clients' medical status, condition, complexity and/or acuity, which may necessitate changes to established treatment plans. * Provides recommendations to the supervising occupational therapist on treatment plan adjustments when necessary to progress patients/clients or discontinue services. * Prepares necessary documentation including daily notes and logs in a timely manner according to federal, state and facility-specific rules and regulations. * Consults with other members of the rehabilitation team to help develop treatment programs consistent with the needs and capabilities of the patient/client and to coordinate comprehensive services delivery. * Develops effective home programs to maintain and enhance patient/client performance in his/her environment. * Complies with supervisory rules and regulations required by the state of employment. * Performs clerical duties such as answering the phone, taking messages, inventory checks, form completion, and insurance authorization tracking. * Presents a positive service-oriented approach with patients/clients, family, caregivers, facility staff, and co-workers at all times. * Assists with orientation of new staff, volunteers, and students. * Assists with equipment maintenance and monitor supply inventory. * Demonstrates ongoing commitment to reducing costs and improving productivity in the rehabilitation department. * Demonstrates the ability to handle changing schedule of patients/clients. * Maintains positive working relationships with the healthcare team, patient/client, family, and caregiver. * Assists with Quality Assurance reports and records. * Assists with development of programs. * Complies with EveryStep's policies and procedures, including but not limited to, universal precautions, safety, risk, and emergency. Qualifications: * Current and valid Iowa OTA license * Ability to comply with accepted professional standards and ethical guidelines * Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification required * Mandatory Reporter of Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training certification (within 30 days of hire) * Must have a valid driver's license, auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation * Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, 2-step TB test, and background check Working Conditions: * Physical requirements: Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. * Physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, fingering (picking, pinching, typing, etc.), hearing, grasping (applying pressure with fingers and palm), repetitive motions, feeling (perceiving size, shape, texture, temperature by touching), Visual acuity (field of vision for analyzing data, viewing computer, using measurement devices, operating machines, determining accuracy or neatness, and/or making general observations) * Environment: Extreme temperatures, Hazards (chemicals, infectious disease), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases) * Time: Ability to be flexible with a varying schedule and programmatic requirements * Travel: Required between location These characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
