SUMMARY
Tends reactors by performing the following duties.

Tend mixing equipment and maintain desired control over time, heat, pressure, color or other variables.

Maintain batch, time, weight, color, pressure, heat, production and/or other records as required.
Fill drums and buckets as needed.
Cross training throughout CASE production
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Troubleshooting with supervisor to devise solutions to any foreseen difficulties.
Must perform standard duties using the Vantage computer software.

Position Purpose:
The Operator II maintains water/wastewater treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in water/wastewater treatment facilities to meet permit and operational requirements.

Qualifications

About the role

Duties to include monitoring, operations, maintenance and housekeeping of system components such as baghouse and spray dryer absorber ash collection hoppers and associated dump valves, ash dischargers, vibratory conveyors, ash transfer drag conveyors and ash conditioning systems. This individual would routinely conduct equipment operations inspections and equipment operations adjustments for proper, safe, compliant and efficient air pollution control, ash conditioning and ash handling systems operations. The Auxiliary Operator routinely performs maintenance, housekeeping and minor repairs to air pollution control, ash conditioning, ash handling systems as well as other assigned auxiliary systems.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Monitor and inspect various WTE boiler combustion and air pollution control (APC) system auxiliary equipment to include: riddling conveyance and ash dischargers, vibratory conveyors, belt conveyors, ash conditioners/mixers, fabric filter and spray dryer absorber (SDA) ash conveyance, lime slurry slaker systems and slurry fluid systems, pumps, 2 fluid injection lances and other auxiliary equipment associated with air emissions control and post combustion ash handling and conditioning.
Documents through shift logs and round sheets; comments that facilitate continuity of systems operations, problem tracking such as out of service components and work that needs to be performed as well as other shift activities that communicate status of plant. Maintains logs and other written documentation on schedule and with clear, accurate and legible writing.
Operates designated components of facility Air Pollution Control (APC) system safely and accurately. Compliance with all facility safety and health program and procedure as well as environmental policy and procedure. Programs include but not limited to Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Machine Guarding, PPE policy, Hotwork, Fall Protection, Barrier Tape/Danger Tape and Respiratory protection.
Adjusts and services assigned components of the APC and ash handling and conditioning systems so that system performance is maintained appropriately for continuous and efficient air and solid waste permit compliance.
Conducts comprehensive equipment “rounds” and system operations inspections per established frequency and per established procedure and standards.
Conducts starting, stopping and adjustment of systems and components as notified by control room operator and/or shift supervisor.
Completes emergent and assigned tasks as identified by shift supervisor and as established through operations routines.
Takes immediate action to address equipment upset conditions per training and established procedures.
Conducts preventive maintenance on ash handling and APC system components per scheduled frequency and as required due to upset condition. Examples of Duties
Collects and analyzes samples throughout the facility for process control and regulatory reporting. Must utilize SCADA alongside the grab sample analyses to make the necessary chemical adjustments for maintaining treatment goals. This requires an understanding of the process flow, chemical injection sites, and SCADA operation. This position will routinely calibrate testing equipment and process analyzers for quality control, and will be familiar of chemical stations, delivery procedures, and spill response.
Evaluates and monitors the SCADA HMI for facility and distribution management. This includes responding to all alarms, monitoring all process equipment, accepting chemical deliveries, maintaining distribution pressure, remote storage management, ASR operations, MFL compliance, electrical load balance, and filter quality control. This is a highly technical position requiring critical thinking skills and consistent process engagement. Must possess a great deal of facility and process knowledge, ultimately operating the facility under a variety of dynamic conditions.
Uses belt filter presses to dewater the sludge created during the chemical treatment of drinking water to produce a ferric humate cake that is land-applied as a fertilizer. Responsible for operating the belt press for daily startup, operation, and shut down of the solids processing facility. This requires a technical understanding of the belt press equipment for proper adjustment of chemical dose, process flow, and belt speed for maximum dryness of ferric humate cake. Dewatering also includes the operation of forklifts for dry chemical inventory and dump trucks to apply ferric humate to the designated location.
Supports the operations team by performing routine maintenance of the treatment processes. This includes swapping chemical feed systems for scheduled or emergency cleaning, inspection of facilities on-site and at remote locations throughout the City, driving a forklift for transporting chemicals or equipment, and driving a boat for source water management.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: water chemistry; preventative maintenance and repair work; sludge removal activities; work related safety standards and precautions; a solid foundation of math, science, utilizing industrial equipment.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of an assigned skilled certified operator. Work is performed as a PlantOperator in a drinking water, wastewater, reclaimed water treatment facilities, with both certifications by the State of Florida in water or wastewater treatment operations. Work is evaluated by inspection, review of reports, conferences, condition of facilities, adherence of standards, and efficiency of operations. The work duties require shift work for continuous coverage of the water and wastewater treatment plants. Work is times include day, nights, and weekend duty. On call coverage is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Controls water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, reclaimed water system pumps and equipment. Operates and controls electric motors, pumps and valves associated with the water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems.
Adjusts chemical feed pumps to ensure the specific amounts of chemicals are added for proper treatment and disinfection of the water.
Cleans, maintains, and repairs bar screens, tanks, weirs, piping, treatment machinery, and equipment. Handles Chemicals and materials properly.
Collects water and wastewater, and reclaimed water samples. Drives a City vehicle.
Assists in training of personnel.
Monitors process control computers (SCADA and infield HMI) and adjusts valves, pumps and set points, to control flow rates and treatment processes.
Monitors SCADA system to ensure satisfactory operation of the wastewater, and reclaimed water system, water production facilities, water distribution system, lift stations, industrial pre-treatment sites and any other facilities on the system.
Maintains operational records. Records meter and gauge readings Enters log entries into various locations to Hach WIMS programs and requires a basic level training in the program.
Performs laboratory tests.
Preforms mathematics and calculations.
Performs grounds keeping, and housekeeping duties.
Performs all duties required to operate the City's wastewater treatment, reclaimed water system, drinking water treatment and distribution systems all in accordance with permit requirements and all local, state, and federal regulations.
Operates, repairs, and lubricates machines and equipment using hand and power tools. Performs preventive maintenance to equipment.
Answers phones and communicates with the public, and internal city customers, handles complaints, and provides routine information to the public.
Monitors radio communications, dispatches on call personnel, and assists field personnel when required.
Monitors and controls access to facilities for security purposes.
Maintains water quality in the distribution system and plants using the established flushing procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of tools and their use.
Intermediate knowledge of water treatment, wastewater treatment, and reclaimed water plantoperations, policies, procedures, and methods.
Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment usage and telemetry systems.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and produce accurate work.
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical computations.
Ability to obtain advanced licenses in water or wastewater treatment.
Ability and aptitude to learn plant controls and laboratory procedures
Ability and aptitude to learn good mechanical skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations other employees and the public.
Skilled in the operation of water and wastewater treatment plants.
Good Computer Skills and ability to learn software, VT SCADA, WIMS, MS Office.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, that will meet the requirement of the FDEP operator certification program.
Minimum two (2) year experience in water or wastewater plantoperations or related field.
Certificates and Licenses:
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and good driving record.
Must possess a FDEP Class “C” Wastewater Treatment operations license in plantoperations
AND
a
Class “C” Water Treatment operations license in plantoperations as issued by the State of Florida at the time of appointment.
