Job Summary
Location: Various, United States
The person holding this position will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all power plant equipment and assist with maintenance tasks as assigned. This position reports to the Operations Supervisor.
Key Accountabilities
* Performs all station shift operation and maintenance, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries
* Perform operations in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures and job safety standards
* Respond to abnormalities and take corrective actions consistent with established operating procedures and good engineering practice
* Conducts routine tours of the plant to inspect equipment; record readings and provides feedback to other employees
* Complies with all site safety requirements and procedures. Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective actions as necessary
* Maintains accuracy of shift operating logs, records, time sheets, work orders and other administrative documents related to the power plant
* Performs routine cycle chemistry testing and makes the necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency. Checks daily consumption rates of chemicals, gasses, fuels, water, and other consumables; monitors inventories and initiates action to replenish when appropriate
* Performs plant switching and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance practices
* Performs electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks under direction of Management when assigned
* Investigates plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provides analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Senior Plant Operator is the responsible shift lead operator level classification in the Plant Operator series. This class is distinguished from the next higher class of Supervising Plant Operator in that the latter is assigned full responsibility for drinking water or wastewater operations, including the direct supervision, technical and functional oversight, direction and coordination of all shifts on a 24-hour basis. This class is distinguished from the next lower class of Plant Operator in that the latter are journey-level positions not responsible for being the responsible shift lead operator.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by a Superintendent and/or the Supervising Plant Operator. Responsibilities require the technical and functional supervision and lead direction of lower-level plant personnel.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Lead and participate in the operation, monitoring, and control of the City's combined wastewater control system, conventional surface water treatment plants, and outlying pumping stations on an assigned shift.
* Participate in and direct the operation of plant equipment including chemical feed, computer, and telemetry systems, microprocessors, pumps, flow control gates, and plant communications systems.
* Plan the operation of the City's entire potable water treatment and distribution system for an assigned shift including anticipating water demand, hour by hour, and adjusting plant influents, effluents and reservoir filling and drawing to maintain pressure in the distribution system within given parameters.
* Plan and schedule water treatment plant activities such as filter backwashes, sludge pumping, filter washwater recycling and other related activities.
* Monitor water quality during treatment process through visual inspection and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and adjust influent flows, chemical dosages and filtration rates based on observations; take corrective action on problems identified including hazardous or toxic material spills that affect water supplies.
* Coordinate and maintain wastewater pumping operations in conjunction with the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
* Monitor and inspect plant equipment and respond to treatment process and equipment alarms.
* Monitor the condition and functional capabilities of automated and manual plant equipment and machinery; direct and perform minor preventive maintenance and recommend maintenance, repair, and replacement of plant equipment as necessary.
* Assess and gauge flow rates during inclement weather and determine when to direct storm water and personnel to various storage and disposal locations; determine timing and degree to which operations should be activated and deactivated.

Certificate:
Assignments in the treatment and distribution of drinking water require a T-3 Water Treatment Operator Certificate from the California Department of Health Services. A T-4 certificate is desirable. For assignments in the combined wastewater control system, a T-2 certificate is desirable.

Job Description
General Responsibility
The Control Room Operator (First Shift) is responsible for monitoring and operating control systems and equipment in a central control room setting to ensure smooth and safe operation of all plant, facility, or system processes during overnight hours. This role requires strong attention to detail, quick decision-making, and effective communication to address any alarms, irregularities, or system failures that may arise during the shift.
Must be able to work any shift: including nights, weekends and holidays
Monitor real-time data and control system interfaces (e.g., SCADA, DCS, CCTV, HMI) for any anomalies or alerts.
Operate and adjust equipment remotely to maintain optimal performance and safety.
Respond promptly to system alarms or alerts, initiating troubleshooting or emergency protocols as needed.
Document and report shift activities, system performance, and any incidents or irregularities.
Coordinate with on-site personnel and maintenance teams to resolve equipment or operational issues.
Maintain accurate logs of system parameters and operational data.
Perform shift handover briefings to ensure clear communication between shifts.
Comply with all safety protocols and operational procedures.
Support scheduled system checks, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance tasks.
Carry out other assignments as requested from management or shift supervisors.
Hourly rate: $35.00 per hour
First shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm. Working days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Qualifications

Provide customer support for test runs of new or reformulated diets. Direct and train extrusion process and set-up skills as necessary.

Assembles, calibrates, operates, and monitors extruder and all auxiliary equipment (pumps, micro-motions, dry coating applicator, tanks, agitators, etc) of both extrusion systems.
Inspects and evaluates equipment hourly; adjusts equipment variables to meet equipment and product requirements.
Frequently dumps/weighs, carries, and stacks up to 50-pound bags of ingredients and/or product
Operates forklift and hand-held scanners to remove ingredients from inventory for use in production.
Responsible for evaluating orders, ensuring paperwork is complete and accurate in all processing conditions, and completing status reports.
Distinguishes colors and duplicates those colors in the extrusion process.
Assists clients with development of products and procedures through research and development/test work.
Establishes and maintains an effective line of communication with the quality assurance department.
Thoroughly understands all quality assurance procedures and programs; ensures all products are within individual client specifications.
Responsible for all product quality attributes
Evaluates product quality attributes; makes immediate adjustments to correct products, which are found to be out of specification.
