Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Center for AI, Data Science & Informatics directed by Dr. Jay S. The postdoc will conduct high-quality research at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and dentistry; develop and test hypotheses; and analyze complex, large-scale datasets. Responsibilities include collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams, grant/proposal development, mentoring junior researchers, computer programming and software/tooling, and contributing to peer-reviewed publications. The role may also include assisting with teaching and presenting findings to academic and professional audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical/Health Informatics, Computational Biology, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, or multimodal data fusion.
Strong programming proficiency in Python, R, and SQL, with experience in TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
Experience with healthcare datasets (e.g., EHR, claims, registries, or imaging).
Excellent scientific writing and communication skills with evidence of peer-reviewed publications.
Prior experience with grant and manuscript preparation.
Preferred Qualifications

This DOE-funded position is for a research project aimed at investigating dynamics in glass-forming liquids. Neutron scattering experiments, with a focus on quasielastic and inelastic measurements, are performed at national user facilities, particularly the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The clinical ethics pre-doctoral/post-doctoral fellowship provides an opportunity for a doctoral candidate or recent Ph.D. in bioethics to assist the director and assistant directors of the Institute of Clinical Bioethics (ICB) at St Joseph's University in the areas of education, consultation, teaching rounds, administration, and research within the university as well as the hospitals and nursing homes affiliated with the Institute. In addition, it gives the fellow an opportunity to advise and support the Fellows/students in their different research projects. The goal of the fellowship is to provide a platform for the fellow to use knowledge and skills acquired in the academic program in a clinical setting (hospital or nursing home) under the direction of the bioethicists at ICB who serve as mentors and preceptors. Students are required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of practical fieldwork in a clinical setting affiliated with ICB. Students are expected to identify clinical ethics issues during the duration of the fellowship, understand the core competencies in clinical ethics consultation, and demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with clinicians, patients, family members and other stakeholders. They should also develop the ability to teach the ICB ethics core curriculum to medical residents at our affiliated hospitals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (include but are not limited
to) Essential Duties
• Assist the director and assistant director where needed in the preparation and presentation of ethics education, grand rounds and consultation materials.
• Advise and support undergraduate, graduate, medical and dental students and medical interns/residents/fellows in their different research projects.
• Assist in serving the leadership teams, work groups and ad hoc committees within and outside the hospital (e.g. university) where ethics is concerned.
• Participate in clinical aspects of ethics consultations, i.e., family care conferences, advisory recommendations, full committee consultations, monthly ethics committee meetings.
• Attend and to participate in ethical, theological, and professional conferences, workshops, and networking meetings as deemed appropriate by the director (may require some travel)
• Assist the director and assistant director in the integration of ethics with the Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph's University and our allied hospitals and nursing homes.
• Conduct research--searching databases, library catalogues, and other appropriate resources; obtaining desired materials; analysis and synthesis of these materials; and the organization of these materials as appropriate to its specific purpose.

Demonstrated expertise, or prior job experience focused on employing AI tools, is required.
Research experience in basic biology or biochemistry is preferred but not required; a candidate with training or experience in biological science but with good AI competencies will be considered.
Expected to learn new techniques to accomplish the research project.
