Position Summary
The Juvenile Detention Probation Department Tutor provides educational support and tutoring services to youth in the juvenile detention and probation system. Attendance at training sessions as required and participation in feedback sessions with the program lead are expected. Position Overview
Tutors will assist students during class time and work with small groups or individuals who need additional help. This position includes supporting students across multiple subjects, with a focus on helping learners stay engaged, understand content, and strengthen foundational academic skills. Potential additional afterschool support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted, small-group instruction in Mathematics and/or English Language Arts.
Reinforce core academic concepts, support homework and class assignments, and guide students through practice activities.
Use data and classroom alignment strategies to tailor lessons to student needs.
Foster a supportive, culturally responsive, and engaging learning environment.
Collaborate with site coordinators, teachers, and administrators to ensure student progress and program consistency.
Maintain attendance, progress, and session documentation accurately and on time.
Qualifications
Experience tutoring or teaching K-12 students (after-school or intervention program experience preferred).
Strong content knowledge in Math and/or ELA aligned with California Common Core Standards.
Ability to differentiate instruction for varied skill levels and learning styles.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently in a school setting.
Preferred Experience:
Associate's degree or minimum of 24 college credits required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, or Korean (other languages also welcome).
Experience supporting English Learners (ELD) or Special Education students.
Familiarity with data-driven instruction and formative assessment practices.
