The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke.     The Process Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all furnace-based thermal processes across the plant. This includes managing hydrogen decrepition (HD), vacuum sintering, post-sintering heat treatment, and GBD furnaces. The role involves designing processes, ensuring their safe operation, and optimizing temperature control, atmosphere management, and cooling systems. Responsibilities * Develop, maintain, and optimize process parameters for all furnace types to ensure consistent part density, magnetic properties, and yield. * Oversee installation, startup, and qualification of furnace systems, including vacuum systems, gas delivery, water cooling, and safety interlocks. * Author and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and control plans for each furnace type. * Monitor process data such as temperature curves, vacuum levels, and gas flow for trends and deviations; implement corrective actions. * Collaborate with Facilities and EHS teams on safety systems, including hydrogen management, venting, alarms, and emergency protocols. * Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis for nonconforming material or equipment issues. * Interface with vendors for design reviews, FAT/SAT, maintenance planning, and spare parts procurement. * Work closely with other Process Engineers on material transitions and furnace recipes specific to processes that involve the use of furnaces. * Support quality and R&D teams in furnace trials, new material qualifications, and metallurgical evaluations. * Develop process capability metrics and support automation/instrumentation improvements for repeatability. Essential Skills * Engineering experience with a focus on thermal processes and heat treatment. * Proficiency in process engineering and thermal analysis. * Strong skills in managing manufacturing processes, particularly furnace-based systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications * Experience in developing and optimizing process parameters. * Ability to author and maintain SOPs and control plans. * Experience in collaborating with safety and facilities teams. * Familiarity with troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Education and Experience Engineering degree required, preferably Chemical or Electrical. 10 - 15 years of experience preferred. Experience with NFPA/NEC codes, as well as HAZOP procedures is a plus. DCS experience with Emerson DeltaV is a must. Experience with PLC's and System Interfaces is a must. Experience with OSISoft PI Enterprise Server is strongly recommended. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Excel is a must. Plant experience is strongly recommended. Project Management skills are strongly recommended. Extensive computer troubleshooting and repair skills. Experience with and working knowledge of Ethernet Networking components and TCP/IP protocol.
