Hendrickson is searching for a Process Engineer to join their Elastomers Business Unit in Kendallville, IN. This role is responsible for the design, construction, delivery and launch of all new tools and equipment directly and indirectly related to the launch of new elastomer products within the plant. Plans utilization of facilities & equipment to support manufacturing personnel in any way needed. Maintains current tools and equipment employed in our manufacturing processes, to assist production work cells in reducing scrap and improving efficiency.
Essential Functions:
* Manage complex projects related to manufacturing, tooling and process engineering with limited supervision and assure adherence to cost, timing, and budgetary targets.
* Evaluate existing processes and technologies and make improvements regarding cost and quality.
* Lead and or support continuous improvement project teams assigned to various elastomer manufacturing processes within the facility
* Develop new processes to improve capability, output, safety, and reliability.
* Understand, participate, and actively contribute in the APQP process within the cross functional team.
* Participates in the new product development process to ensure manufacturability and lowest cost solutions.
* Responsible for signing off on the product design as it pertains to manufacturability and costs.
* Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
* Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
* Lead the development of innovative tooling solutions taking design concepts from inception to launch.
* Interfaces with internal product design teams and or customer to specify design criterion for molded details as to how it interfaces with the mold.
* Creates tooling specifications and expenditure requests and sends to potential vendors to obtain quotes.
* Procures equipment and tooling, tracks vendors' timing to plan and approves equipment and tooling at the vendors. Key contact person for interface between the plant and the tool vendors.
* Assists in equipment layout preparation.
* Responsibility to make sure that the equipment and tooling was installed properly and to specifications and establish the optimum processing conditions.
* Troubleshoots equipment and tooling problems through the launch ramp up phase and throughout the life of the program.
* Maintains molding equipment and tooling drawings and updates as required.
* Supports the maintenance department with technical advice on equipment failures and the preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
* Train supervisors, operators, and technicians as appropriate.
Education and Training
* Bachelor's Degree in a related engineering discipline with 3+ years of directly related experience.
Minimum Qualifications
* Thorough understanding of rubber molding manufacturing techniques and practices.
* Proficient in the design, analysis and fabrication of tooling and equipment used in manufacturing equipment for the molding and assembly of rubber products.
* Sound knowledge of tooling design for rubber assembly as related to assembly operation and injection molding.
* Experience in rubber and/or plastic processing and equipment - injection presses, cutting, and assembly operations. REP press knowledge preferred but not required.
* Experience communicating and explaining technical processes and process limitations and how product design is affected by such limitations. Audience can be customers, project engineers, management, etc.
* Experience in justification and procurement of capital equipment.
* Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles, Process Statistics, and Basic quality systems is required.
* Strong diagnostic and trouble shooting skills.
* Self-starter and motivated. Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
* A strong team orientation, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Skilled in interpersonal relations with hourly production workers, engineers, maintenance, and management.
* The ability to effectively present information to top management.
* CAD experience, preferably with Unigraphics and Solid Edge.
* PC literacy to include MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, and Access software tools

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
Responsible for all aspects of food safety and quality as defined in plant and department procedures.

Experience with Rockwell Automation PlantPz software and FactoryTalk platforms including, but not limited to RSLogix, FTTransaction Manager, FTView SE/ME and FTHistorian.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc..), Visio, AutoCad LT.
Ability to work with Wonderware Intouch, Wonderware Historian, PanelView HMI development software packages.
Knowledge of PMO and Food Safety regulations.
Previous leadership experience preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within time constraints.
Ability to read electrical, mechanical, or process drawings to interpret plant operations and facilitate troubleshooting.
Ability to use necessary test equipment, i.e., Fluke multimeters, HART communicators.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
* Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Materials Science) or a related discipline is required.
* 2 - 5 years of experience in process improvement or operational excellence project roles within the manufacturing sector.
* 5+ years of experience in roll-to-roll converting, slitting, lamination, coating, cutting, web handling, and automation is preferred.
* Proven experience with the successful implementation of continuous improvement manufacturing programs.
* Experience in paper, film, or web-handling processes is a plus.
* Demonstrated training and proficiency in statistical problem-solving methodology and statistical process control.
* Demonstrated ability in the application of web handling and automation technologies such as winders, tension transducers, vision systems, slitters, and roll laminators.
* Working knowledge of PC-based applications is necessary.
