Responsibilities
* Serve as a liaison between Plant Operations and the Production Team

Position Overview
The Process Engineer's role is critical to ensuring that BGF's nonwoven manufacturing operations run safely, reliably, and efficiently, delivering consistent product quality while fostering continuous improvement. *Recommend and implement process improvements (throughput, waste, cost, quality control) via modifications, controls, or process redesigns.
Work hands-on with production operators to diagnose and resolve processing issues (web break, fiber migration, defects, tension control, bonding issues).
*Collaborate with Quality and Customer Service to investigate, root-cause, and respond to customer claims or quality incidents.
*Design, execute, and analyze experiments (Design of Experiments / DOE) and statistical analyses to optimize process parameters.
Plan, coordinate, and oversee plant trials; collect, validate, and interpret experimental data.
Analyze results, draw actionable conclusions, and present findings (written reports, trend charts, visualizations, oral presentations).
Assist in the selection, specification, procurement, and implementation of new or upgraded process equipment and instrumentation.
Ensure safe working practices, adherence to EHS standards, and continuous safety improvement in assigned areas.
Perform supporting tasks as assigned by management, including:
a. Create or maintain cost capture / throughput models and item setups in production systems.

What You Will Contribute:
Using a 5 axis Mill turn machine to complete complex parts
Aerospace experience in materials, feeds and speeds, processing and setup is a requirement
Making accurate engineering reports, and interpreting plans and specifications
Developing/ implementing custom demonstrations and training customers in the safe set up and operation of CNC machining centers, lathes, or multi-tasking machines
Possessing and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of machine tool industry and product lines represented by the company
Provide technical support to existing customers
Documentation for engineering systems
Customer part programs and training.

The Process Engineer Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands is responsible for learning and subsequently implementing the Cornerstone Production System methodology on multiple production lines and throughout different systems and processes. The Quality Engineer is responsible for investigating, planning, and implementing improvements to current products and manufacturing processes that directly effects safety, quality, and productivity with the end result of producing a better-quality product more efficiently. This is an active role to inspect and test products against customer specifications and investigate to root cause analysis while resolving customer complaints. Comply to TPS policies, SOPs, cGMP, International Standards for AS9100, ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 criteria. Audit, maintain and generate accurate quality records, logs, and notes for report writing information. Work with Metrology Technicians, Production Managers, Supervisors, Quality Leader Manager, Quality Leaders, Engineering, and other production personnel, as well as the customers.
Maintain and follow proper ISO procedure and guidelines
Plan and implement improvement projects for customer-based production lines and molding and assembly work areas to include:
a. Perform measurements and data collection as required. Submit PPAP's, Capability Studies, IQ, OQ, PQ validation protocols, First Article Inspections and other data as requested by the customer for tool approval.
b. Complete root cause analysis to resolve any customer complaints and communicate the findings to the customer along with documented findings to close out CAR reports. This shall include notifying the warehouse of inventory to be pulled, auditing that inventory, and placing inventory on MRB. This may include traveling to the customer's facility to sort or rework their inventory
c. Receive customer complaints, determine liability of the parts and issuing RMA's to the customer. Logging customer complaints into the system and using the Customer Complaint Form to ensure all information is obtained. When parts are returned the QE will verify the quantity returned against the quantity given on the RMA, receive the parts in the system and label the boxes. Notify Finance that credit can be issued. Notify Rework, that the WO for the RMA is ready.
d. Evaluate the internal and eternal discrepancies for customer trending to determine appropriate actions for corrections or improvements.
Perform training of associates in quality practices as needed. To include the usage of SPC and trending of IQMS data.
Create, and maintain and update Quality control plans, inspection procedures and operator instructions for customer specifications. Includes setting up the process parameters in IQMS for inspection.
Actively participate in the Quality Management System and be a part of the internal audit team.
Perform audits on data entry in quick inspect. Performing batch review on production date.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a high school diploma or GED, & 1 year injection molding or 3 years in Quality Assurance with knowledge of quality principles, ability to work with a computer, an understanding of measuring equipment, blueprint reading and product specification, a desire to succeed and is not intimidated by confrontation. Must have Metrology experience. This person must conduct themselves with professionalism and dcor when discussing quality issues whether it be to other company employees or the customer.

Position Overview
The Process Engineer plays a key role in driving manufacturing performance, product quality, and safety at BGF. This position focuses on optimizing process parameters, supporting production teams, ensuring environmental and safety compliance, and collaborating with R&D and Quality to deliver consistent, high-quality products to customers.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain Process Control: Develop, document, and monitor process parameters to achieve safety, quality, and production targets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Technical Service Engineers (TSEs), Quality Control, and R&D to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing and product issues.
Data & Reporting: Collect and analyze process data, generate reports, graphs, and presentations to identify trends, correct quality issues, and communicate results.
Environmental & Safety Compliance: Assist with audits, emissions tracking, SDS/CAS data entry (VOC, HAP), and adherence to federal and state environmental requirements.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements, cost-savings initiatives, and yield optimization projects.
Documentation: Develop, write, and maintain work instructions and process documentation for training and compliance.
Plant Support: Participate in machine trials, production evaluations, and new product scale-up activities.
General Duties: Maintain a safe and orderly work environment; perform other tasks as directed by the Department or Plant Manager.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
Minimum 5 years of process engineering or manufacturing experience
Strong computer proficiency, including data analysis tools and Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques
Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization
Ability to work any shift and travel between departments or plants as needed
20/40 correctable vision and ability to wear appropriate PPE
Preferred
Experience in technical textiles, coatings, or composite manufacturing
Background in Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
Familiarity with environmental compliance systems or emission monitoring
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Standing, walking, and climbing as needed (up to 12 hours per day)
Lifting, pushing, and pulling objects (typically under 50 lbs; assistance provided for heavier loads)
Visual acuity to detect yarn quality and color variations
Exposure to fiberglass, dust, fumes, or chemicals - PPE required

ABOUT THE ROLE
This internship is for Summer 2026.
The Process Engineer Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands is responsible for learning and subsequently implementing the Cornerstone Production System methodology on multiple production lines and throughout different systems and processes. Reporting directly to the Continuous Improvement Manager, this role will be on-site in Rocky Mount, VA and will work closely with the operations team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Designs the ability to produce a quality product into the process.
Identify and analyze manufacturing problems to control and improve manufacturing.
Develops all necessary process and audit documentation (i.e. Visual Work Instructions, Standard Work Combination Table, Process Control Adherence Audit, etc.)
Assesses existing processes for areas of improvement utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts (Kaizen, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) Six Sigma, designed experiment techniques, capability studies, etc.
Designs and/or sources equipment for manufacturing processes; evaluates and recommends implementation of competitive technology.
Leads, where applicable, or works in conjunction with plant maintenance to ensure that the facility and equipment are maintained and updated consistent with short- and long-term goals and objectives.
Provides training, as required, to associates.
Leads, where applicable, or works in conjunction with Quality Assurance, to monitor and document quality standards.
Presents capstone project as directed at the conclusion of the internship program.
Performs other duties as assigned.
