Our client in the defense manufacturing industry is seeking a Portable Metrology Engineering Technologist to join their team in York, Pennsylvania. This role supports quality and engineering operations by conducting laser inspections and generating dimensional reports for complex vehicle structures and fixtures used in military programs.
This position works closely with cross-functional teams including Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management to inspect new designs, verify product dimensions, and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
Perform laser inspections on military vehicle structures, subassemblies, and manufacturing fixtures
Create and deliver detailed dimensional inspection reports for internal and customer review
Support the integration and validation of new design changes through precision measurement
Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve dimensional and quality issues
Develop inspection plans aligned with customer and manufacturing requirements
Review laser data to identify trends and support preventive and corrective actions
Communicate inspection results and quality concerns to internal teams and external stakeholders
Required Skills and Experience:
Ability to apply consistent, technical solutions to a range of inspection and metrology challenges
Willingness to learn Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and work toward ASME Y14.5 certification
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Hands-on approach and interest in learning Portable CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) tools
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) or defense manufacturing environment
Familiarity with inspection software such as Polyworks or similar platforms
Basic understanding of GD&T principles
Prior use of Portable CMM equipment
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred
Associate's degree with at least 2 years of relevant work experience also considered
