Kodiak is seeking a resourceful individual with broad knowledge and understanding of HVAC and related systems to join our team as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will be responsible for performing a wide range of HVAC activities for commercial and industrial customers. We are looking for someone who can contribute, grow, think, and create.
This is not a remote position. Candidates must live within a reasonable commute distance to our office in Tacoma, WA (or plan to relocate prior to hire date).
SALARY RANGE: $150,000 to $165,000 per year
JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
Work with Sales and Project Managers to provide timely field-related design solutions for our customers
Analyze customer specifications and performance requirements to determine mechanical designs
Assist with budgets, pre-contract designs and presentations
Active participant in all aspects of system design process: research, design, load calculations for system sizing, layout, sizing of components, equipment selection
Manage projects with both internal and external deadlines and changing time constraints
Design all details for construction required elements for installation
Assure all code requirements are met providing necessary information for permit application
Produce O&M's, Commissioning and other documents required for project communication and completion
Perform site surveys as required to verify details necessary for complete and accurate design
Monitor design standards and implement/practice quality control
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Three years related experience in HVAC or construction industry
Related experience in plumbing design preferred, but not required
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, CAD, Revit a plus
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity with HVAC principles and technical applications
Ability to comprehend and implement applicable HVAC related federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations
Read, analyze, and interpret information including blueprints, drawings, and equipment specifications

Detailed Description:
This position will provide environmental engineering on a variety of industrial water and wastewater treatment planning, evaluation and design projects and will work primarily with Brown and Caldwell's Data Center and Water Stewardship market teams. Work will include due diligence for water and wastewater infrastructure, water resources planning, process evaluation, water and wastewater treatment, and water recycling facilities throughout North America. As part of the Data Center team, the position will directly engage with clients to develop opportunities, deliver projects, and ensure that client service expectations are met. This will include presentation of work products to clients, participation in client workshops, and facilitation/leadership of in-person and virtual client meetings.
* Conduct water supply and wastewater capacity due diligence investigations considering, hydraulics, water quality, and treatment requirements.
* Develop design calculations for selected water and wastewater treatment processes.
* Work with project teams to develop preliminary designs (PFD/P&ID).
* Provide project quality assurance and quality control.
* Provide technical and strategic support to sales tasks and proposal development.
* Interface with engineering disciplines and departments to develop and deliver a seamless design for a full functioning system.
* Preparation of engineering reports, technical memoranda and specifications.
* Conducts and manages field investigation activities, including collection of (water and wastewater) samples for field and laboratory analysis, and compilation of operational data at municipal and industrial facilities.
* Provide consultation in specialized areas to make decisions and solve problems.

The Project Engineer is responsible for simple to complex utility engineering within Potelco's distribution and transmission engineering teams. This role incorporates the utilization of various drafting and design programs (PLSCAD/AutoCAD) to create a work product deliverable that meets client standards and specifications. This position is responsible for multiple project designs from client notification and award through project completion.
This pay range for this role is $32-46/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
What You'll Do
* Provides electric utility engineering for operation and maintenance projects. This includes the interpretation and development of distribution designs congruent with utility standards.
* Perform field work in accordance with utility requirements specific to each customer and different work type.
* Read, and understand utility notifications and project scopes of work.
* Interpret utility standards manuals (engineering/construction) to field verify, and design utility systems in accordance with utility standards.
* Utilize AutoCAD to modify and create designs given a specific scope of work for each independent project.
* Collaborate in a team environment to complete projects.
* Provides assistance to the utility engineering team by performing field visits to gather information, as required.
* Active learning and understanding of the work process from inception of job to construction release.
* Performs and completes other duties as assigned or requested.
What You'll Bring
* Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Engineering or three to four (check) years related experience and/or training in lieu of education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Experience utilizing AutoCAD or other 3D modeling programs
* Ability to be flexible, and highly organized with a strong orientation to detail/quality work
* Candidate must have working knowledge of the project process from inception to construction completion.
* Candidate must be able to fully utilize customer systems such as SAP to track and monitor work flow from customer to Potelco.
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and information, journals, technical procedures, and data.
* Ability to write business correspondence and communicate effectively.
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers, clients, customers, and local permitting agencies.
* Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as those commonly found in business transactions.
* Ability to create and explain financial models and forecasts.
* Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, and engineering principals.
* Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Compensation Range
The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $32.00/Hr. - USD $46.00/Hr. depending on experience and qualifications.
