Position Overview Our quality control inspectors manage the project-specific quality control program, ensuring the highest level of project quality by implementing testing, inspections and reporting as required. This position does not supervise the work of others but does oversee the work of trade contractor employees. GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Office of Inspector General (OIG) is the independent law enforcement agency dedicated to maintaining the safety and security of the Texas juvenile justice system. It has statutory responsible to investigate criminal allegations involving TJJD juveniles, employees, facilities, contractors, volunteers or programs within the Texas juvenile justice system. OIG inspectors general oversee criminal investigations and possess all the power and duties granted to peace officers under the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. Their authority extends to parole officers and facilities operating under contract with TJJD. Specialized inspectors employed by the OIG investigate allegations of abuse, neglect and exploitation by staff against justice-involved youth at both the state and county levels. The OIG also provides security at gatehouses, controlling the ingress and egress of all personnel and vehicles. Additionally, they are responsible for detecting and intercepting contraband to prevent its introduction into secure facilities operated by the TJJD. The OIG operates the 24-hour Incident Reporting Center (IRC), serving as the reporting and clearinghouse for the Texas juvenile justice system. The IRC receives and documents allegations of criminal and administrative misconduct including fraud, waste, abuse, neglect, and exploitation related to juveniles, facilities, and programs under the jurisdiction of the TJJD. Criminal analysts employed by the OIG compile and submit reports regarding criminal and administrative investigations and OIG operations to the TJJD board members, the legislature, and other state agencies. They also monitor compliance with the TJJD Use of Force Plan. Performs investigative law enforcement work. Serves as a commissioned peace officer for the Office of Inspector General at the Juvenile Justice Department. Work involves planning, organizing, and conducting investigations on agency property or involving agency interests. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, social work, behavioral science, or a related field is generally preferred. Work Schedule: 3rd Shift (Nights) Sunday - Thursday 11PM-7AM Starting Hourly Pay Rate: Intermediate Level: $33.43 Senior Level: $36.66 Advanced Level (CWI Required): $38.86 Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years Essential Functions: * Responsible for testing and evaluation, with absolute integrity, of products to ensure conformance to company and customer specifications * Makes decision in the area of codes (includes AWS D1.1) and specifications. * Interprets reports for NDT and quality acceptance. * Actively mentors Entry level NDT Inspectors, which includes monitoring and documenting OJT progress * Has the authority to reject material, stop work in process etc. to minimize financial loss and risk of customer dissatisfaction. * Works under production conditions with accurate performance and completion of work within set time limits * Accountable and responsible for essential tools and equipment provided along with the maintenance of these tools, to include calibration * Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures * Maintain timely and consistent attendance * This position reports to the Quality Supervisor and has no direct reports Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): * A high awareness for safety at all times. * High School diploma and 5+ years of work/educational experience or Associates Degree with 2+ years' experience or Bachelor's Degree * 2 years' experience in fabricated steel environment * Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations, including conversion of fractions to decimals * Ability to use basic measuring tools, such as tape measure, calipers, fillet weld gauges, and levels (digital and conventional) to ensure dimensional accuracy. * Level II NDT certifications or be able to obtain Level II certification within agreed upon time by Valmont * Ability to operate NDT testing equipment. * Ability to work effectively with plant employees, supervisors, management and customers. * Ability to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines. Must also be able to work through problem with the minimum amount of assistance from the lead person or supervisor. * Ability to work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time result without errors. * A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications: * 6 years' experience in fabricated steel environment * Associate Degree in NDT from an accredited school * SNT-TC-1A NDT Level II in UT, VT, MT, and PT * AWS CWI certification * Competence in basic quality assurance disciplines including the use of dimensional inspection and gauging equipment * AWS certification * Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional result Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Work is typically performed in a manufacturing plant environment and the incumbent needs to be able to move about the office, shipping area and all areas of the plant which are producing product line for the company. There is a relatively constant exposure to somewhat disagreeable work conditions such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, and cold as well as noise levels above 80 decibels. Work conditions vary throughout the week depending on the area of the plant assigned to work in. There will be visits to both indoor and outdoor locations during all seasons of the year. Many of the tasks are physical and the incumbent has to be able to lift up to 50 lbs. although the most frequent amount of weight lifted is 20 lbs. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, as well as balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
