Position Description
Job Summary:
Peckham's paid Internship Program is designed to add practical, relevant experience to your field of study while welcoming you into our family by choice culture. As a Quality Control Intern, you will assist and support our Quality Control Team with essential projects, while gaining invaluable experience for your future career. Key projects and tasks include but are not limited to: benchmarking PEM mix designs and cataloging online database. The Quality Control Intern will actively contribute to the implementation and improvement of our quality control procedures, ensuring the delivery of high-quality construction materials. This role provides exposure to various aspects of quality management within a dynamic construction environment.
The Quality Control Intern is a team member who guarantees continuous production and ensures our hot mix asphalt, liquid asphalt, cold mix asphalt, crushed stone, sand, and gravel are consistent with State, Federal and local specifications.

The technician works independently and collaboratively to uphold GMPs, SOPs, and continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Quality & Laboratory Operations
Perform all pre-start, in-process, and finished goods quality checks to ensure product specifications are met.
Conduct laboratory and line tests including, but not limited to: Brix, CO2, total acidity, seam checks, enamel tests, water checks, calibrations, and other required analyses.
Monitor product quality parameters continuously and stop production when specifications are not met.
Adjust quality parameters when appropriate to bring products back into specification.
Place product on hold, conduct verification testing, perform root cause analysis, and document corrective actions.
Verify and approve batches; communicate necessary adjustments to the Bulk Department.
Support daily lab functions including equipment calibration, sanitation inspections, wastewater monitoring, and recordkeeping.
Use sensory evaluation (sight, taste, smell) to assess product color, clarity, flavor, and detect off-tastes.
Verify label artwork, graphics, color shades, and tint accuracy.
Production Line Support
Ensure production lines and laboratory are ready for daily startup.
Operate and troubleshoot can, bottle, and case coding equipment.
Follow all company policies, GMPs, SOPs, and customer quality requirements to prevent product defects.
Communicate quality issues and coordinate activities with the QA Lead and production teams.
Quality Systems, Documentation & Compliance
Generate, revise, review, and maintain quality documentation including SOPs, protocols, reports, change controls, action plans, and procedures.
Support document control programs and ensure accurate, timely filing of QA logs and records.
Assist in maintaining plant audit-ready status for corporate, government, and third-party audits.
Participate in food safety and quality audits, chemical training, and quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure established Quality, Laboratory Testing, and Document Control KPIs are met.
Laboratory Systems & Administrative Support
Support administration, maintenance, and validation status of laboratory computer systems, software, and applications.
Assist with hardware/software upgrades and integration of third-party applications.
Analyze laboratory needs and provide recommendations based on best industry practices.
Organize and maintain QA files, purge outdated records, and create new filing systems as needed.
Provide administrative support including data compilation, report preparation, calendar management, correspondence, and data entry.
Conduct and document periodic inventory of laboratory and QA supplies.
Support the QA Manager and department as needed.
Continuous Improvement & Team Support
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and quality-related projects.
Support the plant Quality Program through corrective action verification and effectiveness checks.
Work collaboratively within a team environment while being self-motivated and capable of independent work.

Responsibilities:
Programs and operates multiple CMMs using Zeiss Calypso and Hexagon PCDMIS software
Analyzes and interprets blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required
Revises CMM programs to maximize efficiency, and retests programs to check that corrections have been completed
Monitors CMM operations and equipment to ensure conformance to specifications, and makes necessary adjustments
Compares computer printouts with original part specifications and blueprints to verify manufacturing accuracy
Uses measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gages etc. to measure and record dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications
Performs first article, in-process, and final inspections using the CMM and hand tools as required; records that information appropriately and shares with the appropriate parties
Understands and follows all in-process and final inspection procedures, taking correct action based on conformance/non-conformance
Determines disposition of out-of-tolerance product, and follows non-conformance product procedures
Communicates non-compliant inspection results with operators, and recommends necessary corrective actions
Monitors, records, and analyzes key metrics as well as test and inspection data
Coordinates with internal customers to schedule CMM inspections, and maximizes work flow
Cleans, maintains, repairs, and calibrates measuring instruments and test equipment such as dial indicators, fixed gages, and height gages
Prepares and reports on defect percentages, averages, and test findings
Interfaces with Engineers and Machinists to transfer CAD-generated drawings into measurement programs without assistance
Supports 5S by cleaning machines, tooling, parts, and all associated work areas
Requirements:
High school degree; Associates degree in related technical field preferred
