The Meteorologist Reporter will report, shoot, write and edit weather/news reports across multiple platforms. Produce and present weather/news reports for all platforms. Ensures that all weather/news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality. Writes and delivers weather / news stories in a clear and concise manner. Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather programming and other content. Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations as required. Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage. Participates in promotional activities including public appearances. Writes web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis. Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites. The MMVJ part of the job includes reporting three days a week. Ability to shoot pictures and edit stories from beginning to end. Winning candidate will be posting on the web and social media. Requirements & Skills: Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience. Responds to breaking news and other urgent newsrooms situations as required. Participates in promotional activities including public appearances. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned. Edits video clips as assigned. Writes content for the website and other eMedia platforms. Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites. Requirements & Skills: Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience. Fluency in English. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required. Minimum five years' experience in news reporting or anchoring. (Depending on market size.) Superior on-air presence. Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues. Experience guiding, directing and motivating others. Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills. Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. We have a part-time sports writer position available with Woodward Community Media newspapers based out of Dyersville, Iowa. Our sports writers cover local and area sports events, take photos, collect information and write the stories our subscribers look forward to reading. The qualified candidate must be able to work up to 15 hours per week and be available after 3 p.m. with occasional weekend work.
